I am asking this on behalf of a family member, halfway across the country so i can't fool with it myself...
They have a Canon P&S (S40 I believe). They own a PC. When they connect the camera via USB to download the images, there is not a default image download program that pops up. They don't have the Canon software that comes with the camera. With my Mac, the default iPhoto takes care of all that for me. So here is my question:
Is there a free, PC downloadable software program out there somewhere that can assist them in the downloading process? Thank you wayyy ahead of time. This is a very random inquiry...

Heres the downloads for the S40 from canons webstie-- all free.
The drivers should be all that it takes (if XP) isnt working, but other programs are there too..

they could just use windows explorer (or My Computer) to drag and drop the images from the camera to whatever folder they want. Or are you looking for something that will do it all with minimal human touch? The camera should show up as another drive when they plug it in and it can be accessed just as easily as all others.
Otherwise yes buzzrock gave you a great link. |

Heh...yeah, its been about 18 months since I have seen a PC. I grew up with them, but honestly have happily forgotten everything about them. That is a good point. I will walk them thru it tomorrow.
