On my new Nikon D80 in the continuos shooting mode when shooting raw can you only shoot 10 shots before storing.

Thanks, Jeremy

is that 10 RAW, JPEG or some combination thereof?

That is 10 in RAW. It slows down after 10 but still is pretty fast. I have a 1 gig card. In jpeg it will take forever. Is this normal.

Thanks, Jeremy

Have to say that sounds pretty much what I expect. Faster card may help but the buffer eventually hits full :-)

Per Nikon the specs are:
6 frames for RAW+
23 frames for RAW
100 frames for JPG

Slow down it`s not a race :)
I`ve never hit the buffer.

I have filled the buffer and sometimes it IS a race. Ever shot a sporting event and took a shot and thought you got it only to find out later you got it too soon or too late? How about fast moving wild animals?

Last year in Kenya we spotted a leopard crouched in a tree before it's evening hunt. They can come down a tree quite quickly, but even with 2.5 fps, I didn't get any REALLY top quality shots of the descent. Had I been shooting in JPG it would have been different a different story, but hey.

I've hit the buffer numerous times on my D200 while shooting ballet. According to Ken Rockwell that makes me a fool who doesn't know how to use my camera properly. The jury is still out on who exactly is the fool though...

I very rarely shoot sports which is why i never fill my buffer.
I also only use raw for night shots and such.
Do you guys shoot sports it raw? If so it`s no wonder you fill your buffer. Raw is a pain i feel as on my computer it takes ages just looking through them let alone all the processing and space.

yea, I shoot RAW exclusively.
For processing I use Bibble and for browsing I use ACDsee Pro.

I went to a tennis tournament recently, where I was in the first row behind a press photog with a big honkin' Canon, one of those that shoots so fast that it sounds like a machine gun. He was only shooting in about one second bursts. The ball would get to where he was aiming, he'd shoot about a second, and then wait for the ball to return. In between points, he'd go through what he'd just shot, and delete. I'd get off one or two shots in the time he was getting 5-10.

I think most PJ's shoot jpeg most of the time, which is another reason they don't buffer as much as you and I do.
