...this weeks usual thread about voters getting a photo >:-D
If you are unsure about how much of an illusion a photo portrays..you might ask yourself some questions.
Does the illuson have to be obviously an illusion to win points? If its obviously an illusion..how good of an illusion is it then?
Is the photo well produced so that even without the "Trick" the photo could stand on its ability to hang in a gallery, a wall or stand on its on merit as a photo in a portfolio? I hope folks remember that as a photo site photographic ability counts at least as much as special effect ability.
Oh well....somebody had to start this weeks thread :-D |

And just because you might have figured out how the 'illusion' was done doesn't mean it gets low marks!
And just because you may have submitted an 'illusion' does not mean we will all score it 10/10, it still has to be a good photo.
Cheers,
Tim

I don't think folks are asking for 10's when they are asking for people to to look at a photo or take into account other things than strickly trick value.
Maybe some photos use great gimmicks, some have great use of technique, some have some real subtle and elegant points , some hit you with a sledge hammer...thats all I am saying. It is an Illusion challenge..it might take folks a bit to figure some versus others and can't just be slammed a number like so many other challenges.
Cheeers back at you :-D |

And some illusions might want to show their 'reality', meaning showing that they are actually an illusion, whil others wight be illusions wanted to be real, meaning not showing the illusion trick.
One way or another, IMHO, something has to be in the picture that is a little 'unreal' or 'not possible' or 'tricky'.
Good luck to everybody ... and less to vote this week :-) |

Sorry hokie, that wasn't directed at you (you seemed to go on the defensive).
What I meant is that some people seem to think that meeting the challenge is more important than taking a good photograph. As long as they've got an illusion they don't seem to care how many problems there are with the photo.

Obvious illusions work well here. I think there is some comfort in knowing what has been done. This isn't about who the next David Copperfield is, it's about taking a good photo. The 'scale' I've been using this week is definitely different from last week. There were many truly good photos last week (and equally some not so good ones) where this week, I'm not really seeing anything that stands head and shoulders above the rest. Not yet anyway. My curve is looking really fat around 4&5, thin around 6&7, anorexic in 8,9,&10. I might have to make some adjustments after I get done.
