it occurred to me that in forum threads, the space beneath the author's name (and camera) is often wasted.

perhaps there are some ideas for things that can be put there.

here's some suggestions:

1. country flag (small, easy to load gif)
2. joined date
3. some basic profile info (best score, best challenge finish rank)
4. ribbon gifs to show how many ribbons a user has won

btw, i know that adding info below people's names would take the site longer to work, but just like signatures, maybe the info could be turned off in profiles, to save bandwidth.

it'd be nice to learn more about users from within their posts. it'd also be good use of that massive space down the left of every forum post. :)

just my $0.02

Yes, I have to agree on that one, I like that idea :)

I really like the idea, but it should be deactivated for scalvert, his ribbons would always make it a full screen post

actually the avatars thing has been debated and personally I hate them unless they are controlled by the admins (i.e. choose one), but even then they are annoying.

Your suggestions are good and reasonable though.

To be honest I'm not sure why the camera type is posted - I would be more interested in flag (so you pick up who's from your part of the world) and maybe current yearly average score.

Although I do fancy a superhero sign off now . . :- (

You can get people's profile pictures in that space using my Profile Images DPCmod. Here's a screenshot:

Adding other stats have been debated, but I think it's nice at least to pu a name with a face.

I love emptiness. It's a waste to occupy it.

the blandness of the forums is one of the reasons i can read them at work
-- i don't want flashystuff i cant turn off -- (though it was fun looking at the profile pics for a day - i had to turn'em off

Please DON'T make flags an option. There are those who will use them to "pigeon hole" a user simply because of his/her country of origin. Much hate, strife, and discontent arises from these identifiers. At least force the reader to identify the linguistic idiom to identify country of origin and characterize the user according to their prejudices and misconceptions. LOL (current user included!)

How very Zen of you.

When I stare into the empty space...
It stares back into me!

I have to agree with this...it may seem like we are all adult enough to avoid it but it sometimes happens subconsciously. The DPCmod works very nice, I have it installed at home but don't want it here at work, it is a great option...kudos to Jeff for these.

btw...just wondering...would you make the flags automatic by where the person is accessing from or do they pick, would they get to choose just the country or maybe the actual state or region they are in? I could see it causing more problems than it is worth.
