I'm not sure its even possible to do what I'd like...

Our portfolio pictures can be grouped into folders, but that option does not exist for our available prints.

I did a photo shoot for a friend and she lives far away, so I'll put them on dpcprints for her and her family to order, but I don't want to make available 7 or 8 photos of just her mixed in with my shots for the general public. It would just look strange...

Any suggestions or am I stuck selling my general prints and prints of her together?

folders for dpcprints would be a great idea.. i dont personalyl have lots of prints yet.. but some people have over 100 already... that can make browsing their gallery a very long thing.. I'd also like to be able to click a sort of "next" button to see the next picture in line of that user.. instead of going back and forth to the thumbnail page...

You raise a good question, David, as this sort of photography is how many of us will sell most of our prints. If I do a wedding or a portrait session, I'd like to put the photos on DPCPrints because of the ease and the quality of the printed photos. But the subject(s) might not really want hundreds, or even dozens, of people seeing them on the internet.

exactly :)

And even if they didn't mind being on the net, anyone browsing through your prints is going to get lots of images of people they don't know :)

I don't know...I can see people here doing portraits of coworkers, family, friends...what better way to get the prints out to their clients, and to generate revenue for dpc, than to put them up here for sale...

I have those pictures ready, I am just hesitant on even posting her pics and having them with my others ...

This is an area where one of the other online photofinishers (Ofoto, etc.) might have a better setup. Any folder you set up is password-protected; you have to invite those you want to see them. The visitors will have to register though, especially to order prints.

I agree, we should be able to do something similar.

You do not need to make a print available for sale in order to be able to print it yourself.

Simply upload the photo to your DPC portfolio as usual. You can upload it to a hidden folder if you do not wish it to show up in your portfolio, and/or hide the image itself if you wish no one to see it at all.

Next, upload the print file as normal. DO NOT, however, submit the print for approval for sale.

Then, go over to DPC Prints and go to your "my account" page, and click "order my prints." From that page you can order ANY print you have uploaded, regardless of whether it is available for sale to the general public.

you can also have it sent to anyone you want.. i do this for my local clients.. they come to my house (or i go to theirs) and i log into my account after i've already uploaded the pics to be printed. then i add a new billing address, and shipping address (of them).. and they enter the billing info when the order is done. granted at that point they're paying for the print only, not any extra charges i had for the session itself..

In some cases needing to be invited is good but I also like the freedom of anyone being able to access certain photos. I guess I would like the ablity to upload some photos to "LOCKED" folders were passwords are required to access but I also like the ability to have "UNLOCKED" folders.

I am going to be doing a few senior portraits in a few weeks and it would be really cool if they didn't have to wait a few days for me to get all the editing done and come back to order what they want.

Would in many ways save me a lot of money! Reprints at Ritz Camera are over $7 per sheet to get the same quality.

Forgive me if I haven't understood correctly, but I'm not sure this would work... the girl I took photos for lives quite a distance away... i think it would be nice for her family and friends to do the ordering. This way they can visit at their leisure and do all the ordering they want, whenever they want. and at the same time also get exposed to other DPC Prints and may order more... They also probably would get their prints faster since they're in the US than if it were sent through customs to me in Canada, only to be shipped back to the states. If I do the ordering for them, they have to contact me, I order it through my account and use another billing address to ship it to them, but then they must send me the money I spent... did I understand that correctly?

I'd think OneSweetSin's suggestion of having seperate passworded folders is an excellent idea...but if that's too extreme, any kind of folder system would solve the problem, no?
