I have one just like that, it̢۪s very convenient on a quick hand, but in the situations when you need to turn your camera sideways or down, or turn it only in one direction this Joystick grip becomes inconvenient. So two month ago I ended up buying three way head, Calumet brand.

I haven't seen it in person yet, but I'm really liking the look of the Manfrotto 488RC0

I have the 3265 head and I really like it. I tried the 322rc2 head too, but liked the feel of this one which was important to me, even though the 322 is rated stronger. The joystick action feels very natural, and is built very tough. It is a tad heavy, and if you put it to the side for a portrait-oriented shot it puts the camera farther away from the tripod's center of gravity making it a tad bit top-heavy, but not so bad as to tip over if you have the legs out and level. With the 24-70 like you have it holds well to the side, and with the grip too. If you get something heavier like a 70-200 2.8IS it gets a bit heavy for that though, but in that case you use would be using the rotating tripod collar anyways.
