I am updating this so people do not have to read the entire thread to get the program.

GTG Date May 12
Several Times and Meeting Places. Both of which will be decided a bit closer to the actual date.

1. Meet before Sunrise at the Milwaukee Art Museum for the Sunrise.

2. Meet for Breakfast. (location pending)

3. Meet at Milwaukee County Zoo. (Just prior to opening)

4. After the Zoo we can either go to the Mitchell Park Conservatory (The Domes) or Holy Hill Which also could be used as meeting places if you are not able to make the earlier locations.

Anyway, Here is the Hat. Toss your name in.

Also include any other suggestions of places around the areas mentioned above.

Current list of the people who wish to attend May 12th.

Giving this a bump this morning because it was a bit late when I posted it lastnight.

I'm all for it! Let's try for May, when we've got a god chance for warm weather, and some leaves on the trees.

I am open every weekend the entire month of May.

How does May 19th sound? The weather is usually good by then

We could meet someplace near the zoo for breakfast get to the zoo when it opens spend a few hours there than take a ride over to the domes to snap a few frames.

Edit to add. The Zoo is best in the morning. The lighting is nice and the cages are usually still wet from the morning cleaning so you get some nice reflections etc... Also not as busy. I have never been to the domes so this would be my rookie year for that.

If we get a nice day, we could start even earlier and try the art museum at sunrise... I've always wanted to do that.

That would be pretty cool too, It would also present an oppertunity to film the city skyline with the morning sun casting all kinds of reflections and shadows, There is plenty of structure around that area to make it well worth getting out of bed an extra hour early.

Tosses a polish sausage into the hat of interest.

(eta - in case it's not apparent that means I'm interested, it does not mean I'm randomly throwing foodstuffs into your hat)

Get heartburn just thinking about it. lol

Count me in for May. Maybe Smartypants too, though shooting anything at sunrise dramatically reduces her chance of participation.

another bump.

I am pretty new around here...but, I would really be up for an outing. Any reason to get out and shoot...

Hi Terri, New to WI or DPC? What part of Wisconsin are you in? Your name is now in the hat. We will keep you in the loop. Would be good to see another Nikon in the group, Last GTG was all Canon if I am not mistaken. If I had made it I would have been the only one.

Born and raised in Wisconsin...I'm in Menasha (just north of Oshkosh). Been lurking at DPC for a while, finally registered in January...and posted my first entry (Free Study) yesterday. Thanks for adding me to the list. I used to live in Milwaukee...Upper Eastside...would love to spend some time down there shooting...

I might be interested in this trip also. Put me down for a tentative yes also.

Another Weekend Bump...

Well I would believe I am up for another GTG.

And there is even a model over in that area thats been bugging me to come to her. So with this it would really make it worthwhile to make the trip. As I had a ball at the last one.

Let's start thinking seriously about the date. If we have a group of people who want to exercise the sunrise option, the Milwaukee people should chime in with some specific meeting and shooting locations.

We can then all go out for breakfast and then rendezvous with the rest of the group at the zoo at opening time.
03/24/2007 11:53:00 AM · #21
I agree, Time to start planning it. I would like to exercise my right to a sunrise lol. As for a place to meet. Terri said she grew up on the east side So perhaps she knows a good meeting place? If you are not interested in getting up before the crows, Then meet a bit later for breakfast or even later at the Zoo, Anyone else interested in the Domes? Would be ideal if DPC would throw us a Spring Flower Challenge that week. lol Which brings me to the date...

I am all for May 19th but if that doesn't work for everyone I am flexible. I wouldnt want to do it too much earlier than that though as the weather can still be tricky the first week or two of May.

I am looking forward to this. Hope we get a nice sunny day.

Does anybody know of a nice campground in the area? If I can find one, I think I'll bring my 5th wheel and just make a weekend out of the deal.

May 19 works for me, and I'm definitely in for the sunrise!

5:24 AM sunrise!

I believe that May 19 is a good date for me, and I'm in for the sunrise as well... O wait, I was the one that suggested it! ;-)
We could just meet at the Art Museum.

Here's some info on the Milwaukee Count Zoo:
- Adult entrance fee, $10.50
- Parking fee, $9.00 per car (we may be able to avoid this, but we might have to park at least some vehicles)
- Hours on May 19 are 09:00 to 17:00 (5 PM)

Here's the relevant info on the Domes (Mitchell Park):

- Open 09:00 to 17:00 (5PM)
- Admission $5.00 for adults, $3.50 for under age 18.
- I've looked over the section on the Mitchell Park website regarding photography, and we appear to not need permits for "informal, candid" photography. It's different for "personal events" and for commercial photography. I'll call during the business week to confirm that our group would not need a permit.
