The laptop finally died.. Actually, it's on it's last legs and we will now designate it the solitare game spot/only check e-mails/maybe buy on ebay if it doesn't turn off in the middle of bidding work station, so we bought a new puter.
Hubby (who's extremely computer literate & will continue to deal with this until it's resolved) worked on it for 6 hours last night trying to get the vista system to network to the stinky laptop and our other desktop. Typical guy though, won't ask for directions until it's too late and I don't have that kind of patience, so here I am, asking you !!! :-)
The Vista system goes from being connected to one & not the other, then without warning, loses all network connections period.. Just curious if anyone has had the lovely experience of Vista yet & dealt with this problem.. He figured out that all puters had to be named the same thing and since he built his other desktop & couldn't change it's name, he changed the laptop & this new puter.. It worked for a bit, but seems to just drop the network at will..
I dig the Vista set up ( I think )and hubby is already threatening me with taking it off & puting XP on this, but I don't want to give up just quite yet.
Also, the new desktop came w/a 19" monitor which I thought I would just looooooooove.. Well, it stretches all my images and makes everything look distorted.. I didn't dare complain about that last night since hubby was at the end of his rope, so I thought I'd throw that in here also. How do I set up the monitor to NOT do this to my images???
Thanks everyone.. Your expertise and help is much appreciated !!

Ihad no issues in Vista Beta 2 and RC-1. Have you tried maintaining a network to another PC with vista? You could be having driver or hardware issues.
As far as the moniter goes you need to set it to the proper resolution 800x600 aint gonna look right when thr moniters resolution is 1920x1440. Not sure what yous is probly 1280x1090 or something like that. Just find it out and then set it.

I'm on Vista at the moment, connected to 2 XP SP2 computers, 1 XP Media Center computer, and 1 XP SP2 laptop. All our files are shared as is our internet connection with no problems.
Make sure all the computers are in the same workgroup, MSHOME by default.

Vista works great for me. Not sure what the network problem is, try what Konador said.
As far as monitor, you need to match resolution that has same aspect ratio of the monitor. Actually you should figure out what monitors NATIVE resolution is. If you set that everything shood look fine.

That would be in display manual. It is usually posted on the makers website.

I do believe that resolution is 1440 x 900. Goto display or right click on the desktop goto properties and setting its usually the last tab.

it doesn't allow me to go that high.. the highest setting is, 1280 x 1024. And, if I right click on the desktop, it doesn't bring up the good ole window's properties.. It brings up Vista's version and it allows me to go to "personalization", then pick "display setting". And, that's where I would adjust this to 1440 x 900, but like I said it won't go up to 1440. |

Get in touch with the company that sold you the PC. You may need updated drivers for the video hardware, or the video hardware may not be capable of supporting that resolution. Shame on them for selling you a system that cannot be properly configured for the native display resolution of the monitor. |

Try reducing number colors then it may let you bring resolution higher.

Well the westinghosue isnt exactly somrething dell acer or hp is gonna throw in. Not sure who built the pc for you. I have the 17 inch version of the westinghouse.
Really depends on the video card if its some onboard not sure but If its ATI or nVidia theres just a simple extra step in allowing it to run widescreen resolutions.
ALL westinghouse moniters do not feed resolution data back to the PC via rom string like some monitors do.

We bought this from Bestbuy.. It's an HP.. This is what the specifications are (keep in mind, this is way out of my range and as far as I'm concerned, I'm speaking in jibberish)
hp pavilion a1710n
AMD Live
AMD Athlon 64 x2 Dual Core processor 4200+
1024MB PC2-4200 DDR2 SDRAM memory
320GB 7200RPM Seral ATA hard drive
SuperMulti DVD burner w/lightscribe
NVIDIA GeForce 6150 LE Graphics
9-in-1 memory card reader
10/100Base-T network interface
Does this sound like they sold us a desktop that can't run this monitor correctly or does that not give any pertinent info at all..? |

It says "Able to drive flat-panel displays up to and including 1600x1200."
So it should support your monitor

| The GeForce 6150 is a motherboard-based graphics "card." That's pretty common on many systems. It *should* be capable of driving the monitor properly, but may need some configuration to do so. |
