Hi - I've just sent a reminder to all of those who have posted on this thread that they're interested in attending.
If you've been lurking and can't decide, here's the same message for you:
Just a quick note to see if you've booked your room for our RED ROCK GTG. The rooms will only be held until March 27th, then I have to release them or pay for them (and I'm too cheap to pay for them ;-) .)
Here's the link and info if you need it: We've got a block of 15 rooms held at Lake Powell Resort & Marina for $69/night from April 25 to April 30th.
To make your reservations, you'll call or email. "Individual customers to place booking direct - please call 800-341-8934 and ask for Laura Litke OR email request to: litke-laura@aramark.com" Let them know you're with DPChallenge.
You'll need to make a deposit of one night's cost (complete with taxes/fees, it's $79.60) Please make checks payable and mail to: ARAMARK P.O. Box 248 Page, AZ 86040
Credit Card Payments call 800.341.8934
BTW - Aramark is the provider for rooms in any National Park.
I am getting very excited about this GTG. The time will start flying very soon.
Take care,
Becky

Becky,
I haven't booked yet, Sherry and I are moving so I need to wait a couple of weeks to see how things are coming together. Between work and moving there is just so much going on right now I can't keep my head above water, but hopefully everything will sort itself out soon.
John.

My room is booked for my arrival on Wednesday the 25th because I was planning to drive immediately upon arriving in Las Vegas at 5:45pm. However, I am now thinking about taking some time on the drive from Las Vegas to meander around a little before getting to the Lake Powell Resort and making it there late Thursday evening instead.
It would help to know what the tentative schedule of this GTG is going to be. I don't want to travel all the way out there and miss an important part of this GTG, but on the other hand, I've read that some people are not going to be able to make it until Friday. There is a stop between Las Vegas and Lake Powell that I definitely want to make and I think that I would probably miss less of the GTG if I made this side trip on Thursday instead of on my way back to the airport in Las Vegas on Sunday (my flight is about 11:00pm).
So, if anybody can offer some sort of tentative schedule, it would help me make an informed decision.
Thanks. |

Hey Becky,
I'm also now on the maybe list but even more towards the "I doubt I'll make it list." A lot of work stuff has come up for the end of April that I might not be able to get out of. I'm really hoping that I can make it but right now I'm just a "maybe".
Crossing fingers.

Atlanta to Las Vegas is probably the most economical city pairs to fly between with sales running often. I hope that you can make it. |

I decided to fly in early and visit Zion NP and Bryce canyon before GTG. I want to maximize my photo ops while I'm out there.

I wanted to do exactly the same thing, maximize my photo ops on this trip, especially since I am travelling so far. Specifically, I wanted to find this place again...
. . . .....and get the shots right the first time. I've learned a lot here on DP Challenge that I didn't know the first time that I was out there. I've been trying to post process these images over and over again to force them into what they could be. Now I'll have the opportunity to reshoot them right in the first place.
I'm really stretching the length of this trip as it is. My son's spring break ends before this trip so he will be back in school. It is a tremendous compromise for his grandmother to help out by getting him back and forth from school for three days, otherwise, it wouldn't be a problem for me to spend significantly more time on this trip. |

Although I can't attend again this year (damn!) I did pass through the area this past week on the way home from the Phoenix area of Arizona. Decided to drive so I could take a quick look at the area in order to plan a future multi-week trip. We drove back by way of Grand Canyon and Bryce Canyon and only had time to spend the night in each. This was my first time driving that route and I can tell you it is beautiful! The painted desert south of Page would be wonderful for summer lightening storms. There is so much to see in such a realtively small area. But you need time to play the light and do some hiking. Below are a few shots that I took just as a teaser. More time to wait for clouds, light and the like would have produced much better shots but this is all I have for now. You guys will love the trip.

Ericwoo mentioned this GTG at our last Atlanta GTG and I was excited because I was going to be in Nevada around those dates. But it turns out I'll be there from 22nd thru the 25th (early flight leaving out of Vegas) Bummer timing!! Would've been worth the drive to shoot for a day or two. Have a great time guys!

Well, I've made our reservation for Friday the 27th and will leave on the Monday the 30th. I'm sorry to say that we will not be staying at the Marina with you all. I had to make other arrangements due to $$$. We are staying at the Americas Best Value Inn.
It's my birthday on April 29th, so this is my present. I've got a 4 day weekend. We are leaving right after work on the Thursday and will stay in Richfield, then drive the rest of the way on Friday.
I'm so excited to meet everyone. |

I think my hotel is near yours from looking at the map of Page. I am staying at the Courtyard Marriot. |

I check out the map and it looks like we are just down the road for you. I'm not sure how far we are from the marina. |

The marina is about 8-9 miles from town. It's all highway, so it won't take long to meet up. |

My boyfriend used to live in Page. I will ask him tonight what parks (beyond what are already mentioned) might be good for photography. |

I bought a map and a guidebook covering Utah and the parks yesterday so that I can familiarize myself with the area. Oh, O.K., the truth is that I can't wait and wanted to do something in the meantime :)
One of the most appealing aspects of my trip out there is that I'll be meeting not just other DPC'ers, but people who have been there before and know exactly where to go. No messing around, getting lost, or disappointments in destinations. For this reason, I plan to follow their lead. I'm sure that I'll be happy with whatever those with experience decide that our itinerary will be.
That said, I would like to get an idea of where and when we will be going. Like I mentioned earlier in this thread, I want to make a side trip to a place I've been before on the west side of Zion to retake some photos (AND shoot in RAW this time!!!) However, I don't expect that everyone else will want to go there, especially since it might take me awhile to find this place again. Besides, I look forward to spending quite a bit of the day and evening there. So, it would help to know what I can expect to miss by showing up Thursday night instead of Wednesday night, or if I should leave before daybreak Sunday instead of very late Sunday afternoon and hit this place on the way back to Las Vegas airport.
Whatever the plans end up being, I'm sure that this is going to be a very enjoyable time. |

I just made a trip through Glen Canyon National Park, down through Hanksville and Hite. WOW the river is soooo low. IBeautiful area for red rocks and formations.
.
I had a video camera on a tripod filming the arch bridge at Hite when a private airplane flew under it. I figure it's worth a little money to some news agency. Flying low level by structures is not a good idea since 911. |

I'll be releasing any unused rooms today. If I don't, I'll have to pay for them, and that's not going to happen. Love ya all, but I'm not paying for your rooms. ;-)
If you haven't made your reservations yet, and you plan on coming, look in the 1st post of the forum for the information on the group reservations.
See you all in a month!
