Look here to see how it works and here to see it compared to real DOF.
Mua ha ha, you got ripped off buying those f/1.4 lenses ;-)

| the first sample looks pretty good, but that 2nd one is definately not as nice as the real thing. Fast glass isn't just for DOF btw ;-) |

| Of course, a fast lens is permitted in challenges, and this wouldn't be. (It adds a new major effect.) |
