I've been using my SB-600 as a remote flash with the SB-800 as master for a few weeks now... until today when I went to shoot and the SB-600 just sat there and wailed like a siren for a couple of seconds every time I pushed the shutter... it didn't fire.

Any ideas?

(I don't have the manual, and although I have the PDF I can't read off computer monitors all that well)

Are all the batteries charged?
Has any settings been changed?

nothing changed, and fresh batteries. The 600 fires fine when it's on the camera.

RTFM LOL. Sorry, had to say that. I had a 600 and it could get into some of the damnest caniptions. Are the red leds flashing when in the remote mode? I suspect this has to be turned on too. How far away were you? If nothing else look up the reset procedure and reset the sucker back to factory settings and start over.

Edit: Wait a minute! Does the D50 have commander flash mode?????? Or are you using an SU800 or SB800 as the master?

Yeah, the lights are flashing waiting to fire the flash and I'm using the SB-800 to fire it.

*bump*

I bet you that either the channel number or group letter has been bumped on either the controling flash or more likely the SB-600. The default for both is channel 3 group A. Make sure that both are reading the same and it should work if nothing is broken.

I've now reset both flashes and switched through various channels. I'm now recharging both sets of batteries... but any other suggestions would be most welcome!

depending on where you are, you may need to make sure the sb-600's sensor is turned towards the sb-800... the head swivels around 180 degrees, so this shouldn't be a problem.

the sensor is the round spot on the left hand side of the flash when you're looking at the front of it.

Still to no avail...

Got it to fire a few times... could be trouble with the signal getting through?

could be, but it's kinda hard to troubleshoot long distanct...

can you send us a pic of the set up and, maybe, of the display on each flash? might help us run it down...
