Hello All,

I was asked by a local college to shoot their graduation ceremony. It's a four hour event. They basically want shots of each student recieving their diploma and some various candids during the event. It's around 150 students. Well, my question is...how much to charge? I have no idea as I've never done an event this size. Sorry for the lack of details, but that's all the information I have thus far. Any suggestons much appreciated.

the question is, how much did they pay last year?

if their answer sounds good to you, take it. if it sounds low, either ask for more, or walk.

chances are, whatever they paid last year should be adequate. you'll make a few bucks, get some experience, and if you do a decent job, maybe they'll hire you again and maybe pay you a little more.

however, before you commit to doing the work for any amount of money, you should take a real hard look at the images they are expecting to get and answer yourself honestly as to whether or not your are capable of doing the work. if you don't have the equipment or experience to handle the job, you probably should pass on it.

What do you have to provide besides the 4 hours? Can you sell pics, on site or on the web?

Most likely if all they want is a disk of images, you charge an hourly fee and perhaps a fee for burning the disk. This varies by region of the country of course.

I've been charging $90/hour 2 hour minimum including the CD w/images (and permission to do what they want with the images). I've been told i'm too cheap or get no price resistance at all...so I think I'm too cheap for this type of coverage.

But then, for other work that price inflicts visable pain when quoted...and IMO it is cheap - $40/half hour for an in-studio sitting fee is reasonable AND you'll sell prints AND you don't have to go anywhere (gas, travel time, carrying gear, etc).

Does that help any?
