I have a new Lexar Platinum II 80x 1gb CF card. I formatted it in my camera. Every so often (maybe...once out of every 50 shots or so) I will snap a pic and the preview will say image not available. Review system kind of sticks for a moment then all is ok except for the loss of that shot.

Should I consider this card bad and get another from the purchase place Walmart (I lost the receipt) or send it to Lexar.....

....or if I reformat it can I trust it to "not lose an important shot in the future"?

Thanks,
Kenskid

So the image is actually lost? You can't download it with a card reader later? Is it there ... but corrupted, or totally gone?

You sound hesitant to reformat the card. I'd reformat and try again. In fact, I reformat my cards every time I download them.

I'm pretty sure that the image is lost b/c I don't see it on the card when downloading to my computer....and I didn't have the option to delete it in the camera. So likely lost.

As far as the reformat...I will reformat but my real concern was "should I trust the card in the future" What if I lose one of the best photo's ever taken in the history of man? DPC'ers would never believe my fish story without the photo!

Thanks,

well format it a couple times in a row. then shoot a card full of nothing images and see if the problem occurs again. that way your not losing anything. i have a card with sort of similar issues that i keep - but soley for emergency space. it's the last resort CF card in the bag, and marked as such.

Bump to add:

Today I was shooting and I got another image that started acting up. First it was just one, but then the rest (6) did the same thing....

...when I looked at the preview on my nikon and tried to "zoom"...the message said ..."not a zoomable image". Then the last shot I took dissappered and message said "no image data available".

On the status screen at the top of the cam where the number of shots remaining ususally shows...was the flahing "CHG"....

Any Ideas if this is the cam or that new CF Lexar card? I don't have the other card with me to test my old one out.

If you go to the local camera store, you can probably borrow a floor model D70 to fire off a bunch of pictures using your CF card to see if the same thing happens. Less likely would be that they'd have a CF card you could try in your own camera, but it *is* possible, so you might try that too. See if the problem follows the camera or the card...

i had a quite similar problem with my nikon.
try formatting the card using your camera, and not your computer.
it worked for me.

Dont rule out the CF card, I just got mine back from RMA as it was doing something similar and then quit working all together and it was a Lexar Professional 4GB 133X CF card... and I returned it to the place I bought mine and had no problem with the RMA and knowing Walmart they will likely exchange it over the counter for a new one even without the receipt as long as you tell them the card is bad and you just want to exchange it for the same one...

I poked around the web awhile and found several D70 cams having the same problem with the exact same Lexar. I'll assume it is the card and try and get another from Walmart. Even if it is the same type, maybe I'll get a good one. I hope they exchange it. I don't have the package or receipt.
