How does one hook up their cam to their laptop for instant viewing? Is it just a matter of drivers? I have a new 5D and a Sony Vaio, and cannot find any info on the web about this.
Thanks

You can use EOS Capture and a USB cable.
Just do a google search for "5d tethered shooting" and you'll find lots of results.
there are 3rd party programs that'll let you shoot tethered as well like Bibble and Lightroom. |

That might be under EOS Utility in your Start Menu. It's pretty nifty for tethered shooting. It will be a bit slower than direct to card shooting though.

The EOS software is your basic starting point. Here's an interesting article on doing it in conjunction with Adobe Lightroom, which seems to be a slick setup:

I actually tried it for a little while this afternoon when trying to nail a Grain shot. It was helpful... I could shoot, PP the photo a little bit to see if I was going in the direction I wanted, reshoot... |

I did this with my d-200 a few weeks ago just to try it out. It does seem a bit slow but I think it is worth the wait to make sure I get the shot I want.

| I have used it a couple of times. The last time it was very helpful. I had the camera on the tripod and put up as high as it could and pointing downward. I could not compose. I tethered it and could then use the laptop to review and help me compose. it saved me countless time and energy. |
