I had seen them on eBay for a while, but never considered them until I saw that a reputable dealer (B&H) had started to carry them. I needed an ultra light tripod that goes higher than my Gitzo as I'm getting older and hate to stoop, so I ordered the Benro C-O27 carbon fiber. My first impression is much better than I expected. It's well finished, super light and is stable enough to hold my heavy D200 with the AF-S VR 70-300. Pics...
My only negative so far is that the design (Gitzo knockoff) doesn't allow the easy removal of the useless center column like my old Gitzo 026.
Anyone else tried them. |

HI Steve,
I'm in the process of searching for a tripod and head assembly. Care to say where you got it and how much you paid for it? I was at the camera shop today and picked up a Manfrotto Monopod but there were so many tripods to chose from its tough.

| Looks like a nice unit. It's nice and compact when folded, will go into carry-on size luggage, but only 2" shorter with the column down than my 3021. 3.6 pounds, vs. 5.3 for the 3021. Only thing I really don't like is the twist locks... I much prefer levers. |

I bought the tripod at B&H for $129.95. The head is close to 10 years old, a Giottos MH-1001. It is a great little head for the money (about $70).

I'm the complete opposite, I HATE lever locks. When my big Gitzo was stolen a couple of years ago I replaced it with a Bogen 3021. I still have it, but I just don't like it. Its real clunky and it bugs keeping up with a tool to keep the levers tight. I guess why there are different types on the market, to please different tastes.
Hey MattO if you are interested I sell the Bogen to ya, and throw in theses wonderful heads...

You must be looking at the wrong model. This one is 5.3" shorter than the 3021 and only weighs 2.2 lbs. |

| Yup, you're right, I was looking at the incorrect page. 2.2 pounds... man, that's light. Be really nice for travel too. |

Benro is pretty good. They have a lot of them around here. I'd consider it if I once again had money and was starting to look for another tripod.
Giottos is a good brand for heads, but get one rated for heavier than you expect. Mine is listed on the internet and by number for 6+kg, but I found a sticker on the box that reclaims the strength as 4.2kg.
Greatly disappointing to me. Their factory headquarters is an hour drive out of Taipei, but after calling them a few times and waiting 6 months for them to get back to me, I kinda gave up. Very nice feel though. I also think that the 1001 is a good choice. |
