I'm sure SC will love this tool:
//gizmodo.com/gadgets/software/adobe-to-develop-photo-authentication-tools-242729.php
and direct to the wired article:

Officials at the AP, meanwhile, met Feb. 5 with Hany Farid, a Dartmouth College professor who studies ways to detect digital forgery, Farid said.
Farid is working with Adobe on its upcoming photo-authentication plug-ins, which will rely on mathematical algorithms to pinpoint signs of manipulation.
Among other things, Adobe is developing a tool that will detect the use of the copying tool known as the "clone stamp." The tool will identify when two areas in a photo are "impossibly similar," Story said.
Adobe expects another tool will perform an analysis similar to firearm ballistics -- confirming the model of camera that took an image, and matching the image to the individual camera, if it's available. |

I hate to say it but they probly wont.
The ME/Overlay ruling comes short due to not every SC member has a copy of Nikon NX Capture to confirm how the image was done.
Im sure Adobes plugin wont be cheap and im not so sure the site council is willing to make the personal investment in a license for each member. Rememeber the site council is virtually connected its not like this council has a meeting room with a single computer.
SO yeah im sure its great and all i just dont see every council memeber having a copy.
BTW whats up with the image verification stuff on the 1Ds Mark III

Looks like it could be very useful! And only one person on SC would need to have it to check for cloning :)

Isn't that just an encryption addon for forensics/police work? That's an "end user" protection scheme, instead of a detection scheme. If the AP were to require that, you'd know for sure that every photo was authentic, but using that at DPC would be ummm.... prohibitive, for people without the tech on the camera.

That would be an interesting tool but I bet it would only detect sloppy cloning. If you clone/heal correctly you should be producing unique textures which I don't see any tool being able to detect.
