Compatible (and Cheap) Slave Flashes

I have posted something similar. I apologize if this is repeated. Do you know of rather in-expensive (< $100) wireless slave flashes that will be compatible from the preflash signal from the Canon 580EX?

Not with the preflash. But just ordinary slaves aren't all that expensive.

I bought a couple of these a few months back for about $20 a piece at the local Ritz Camera store. I went with these because all I was going to do was set put some cellophane on them to color the light. So I didn't want anything expensive.

Then I just set my Canon 580EX to manual mode and figure out the flash power on my own (simple histogram test for a couple of shots).

Here are a couple of examples taken with these flashes and red and green cellophane for halloween:

I'm not a Canon person, so I don't have the answer for you (although I think the answer is that there aren't any), but I do know that this has been hashed out thoroughly in the discussions in the strobist.com flicker group.

Regular slaves simply fire when they see another flash go off. Nothing to it. :-)
