I became a card-carrying member of DPC in March of âought-fourâ (almost 3 years ago) and have entered 105 challenges, to date.

105 times, I have placed my photos in harmâs way, ⦠and you all have opined. I have won no ribbons here. I am not a pro. My average votes received is squarely in the middle of the pack. Those who know me will tell you I am quirky, unpredictable, occasionally grumpy, and uneven in any talent I might have. I have no lighting set-up (e.g. Alien Bees), no studio. I have access to no nude (or otherwise) models, but I do have access to the world around me. I am bi-modal ⦠optimistic one minute, pessimistic the next, and yes, ambivalent sometimes. I have no formal artistic, design, or photographic training. But do I have a Point of View about the world we live in. And I am interested in capturing my point of view.

Thank you all for letting me hang out here; for commenting on my photos; for responding positively to my coaching occasionally; for calling me on lame photos or lame titles (e.g. recently); or shoe-horned entries.I have learned a lot. Maybe a few of you all have learned from me. I plan to stay for awhile!

I am reminded of Vincent Van Gogh. He painted the world around him. He was a dysfunctional, desperately poor, and ultimately suicidal human being! Although he was brilliant, by our standards today, he was generally rejected in his own time. But his work is now regarded well. I think DPC is populated by many (many) folks whose photos are brilliant (and some not so brilliantly mediocre) who, if any of this electronic ether survives, will be judged as brilliant, in some future we can scarcely imagine.

My only hope is that you will attempt to transcend (not to put too fine a point on it), âstock!â Shoot for yourself! Shoot as though you wanted to your childrenâs children to understand that the world you lived in was different, when you were â¦. well, young. Shoot to show me that the future might have a different perspective on the past.

It may surprise you ⦠I am optimistic about the future. We all need to be young sometime. When we age, being (feeling inside ourselves) young is the only revenge.

Can you show me âyoung?â Show me optimistic? Energized by life?

I have thought about this often, and it really does inspire me to get out there.
If i dont do it then who's going to record what I could have captured that day? nobody.

I shoot from my heart.

I also feel that when I have a camera in my hand, I also feel young.
I find that my constant pain disappears into the background, and my motivation to get the shot helps to overcome all my pain barriers.

I am amazed at what I manage to do, when I want a particular shot, and get so excited when it turns out, just like I want it to.

I also get excited and feel a lot younger, when I accidentally find an image that just "pops" when I process it.
I do think photography has helped me to cope so much better, and sometimes it does make me feel younger.

Well said. I am very new to the site, only 3 challenge entries, but have learned a great deal here. I go to art school and have great exposure to the work of many famous artists. I can safely and easily say that much of the work here is as good and often better than the work of many of the "Great Photographers" of all time. I am constantly awed and inspired by the creative setups, beautiful photographs, stunning technical skill, incredible attention to detail, and general kindred spirit invoked by DPC. The sense of community is incredible and the support and feedback everyone provides is amazing. I may just be getting started in photography and on DPC, but I am looking forward to a great many challenges and an incredible deal of learning in the days, weeks, months, and years to come. A big thanks to DPC and everyone involved.
