you have to leave the shutter open a bit longer, granted, but this photo was taken after the sun had already set:

Judi, maybe it would be a good idea to add to your tutorial a list with different lenses and its behaviour in IR photography. It is just an idea.
For instance, from my own experience i noticed that the tamron 17-50 f/2.8 produces moderate hot spots (red circle in the middle of the image) issues in almost all ranges while the nikkor 18-55 f/3,5-5,6 kit lens works ok with no hot spots. Both with r72 hoya IR filter on a D50.

Hi there,
Very interested in this thread - Judi - YOU ROCK!
Can someone please answer this question.
Hoya IR filters created equally?
I've searched Ebay and found this for my 50mm 1.8 and it seems cheap compared to the figures others are talking about and this is in $AUS
Are all //cgi.ebay.com.au/Hoya-52mm-IR-R72-Infrared-Glass-Filter-NEW_W0QQitemZ150128686554QQihZ005QQcategoryZ30045QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
I know in the circular filter game there are HUGE variations up and down the $ scale - is the one above correct?
Thanks in advance,
Lisa |

I have no idea of all Hoya's are created equally, but I would sure hope they are, at least when it comes to the R72.
That price sounds like a good deal. |
