Hello!
I am looking for some information regarding big print setups. I want to be able to print 5mill+ A4 photos inhouse. Which systems would give me the lowest cost: initial investment, ink, paper and maintenance.
It will not be multiple copies of photos, but rather one by one print - meaning this will probably be a multiple printer solution.
Any advice, information to tips would be greatly appriciated!

Do you mean 5 million copies?
If I read that right, you're in the wrong place to be asking this - call Kodak or Fuji about one of their printers.
The fuji frontiers or the kodak version, $30,000 or more for a machine, is what you want. Continious tone, water being the only 'chemical', print cost would be under $1/8x10 (a4?). Paper is the only consumeable - no ink as it's a photo process.

Hey Chris,
Thanks for the advice! I will certainly contact Kodak and Fuji. First step will be to research the different options, and their cost per print when volume is 5million (per year) A4 photos printed. Not however looking at one or two machines, but rather 20 to 60 printers doing the job.
If I could only find a updated list of cost on various small/medium sized printers. That takes Ink, Laser, Continious tone etc into account. That would help a great deal in figuring out which direction to look into.
Basically I wanna find out what yields the best performance in a price per print scenario.
I realize that this might not be the right place to post such questions, but there is a great deal of experience with so many various projects on here, so I gave it a chance. I'm in a very early stage of planning still, and need to gather more information at this point.

I've done a fair bit of research, although I'm still nowhere near a true expert, and I would say that ink costs for 5 million prints is going to be enough that 30 grand is probably quite a reasonable alternative and will likely give an excellent price/print.
I think I worked out around $1.25 USD equivalent for the Canon iP4300 at best case scenario. Probably a bit more in practice. Dividing 5 million prints among 20 printers would still yield 250,000 prints each.
I can't imagine that 20 printers would work flawlessly for that kind of volume.
I'd look at a pair of $30000 dollar machines personally if considering 5 million prints at around a buck apeice. You would need less than a penny per print to pay for each machine.
