I never used one before and I read the CNEt reviews, but would like real user feedback here. In addition to what you use and how satisfied you are with it, do any of you use programs like Trillian?

I love Google Talk because it remembers my conversations when I close and re-open the program.

I just use AIM with deadaim, but it's an old version of both.

MSN Messenger is probably the most popular IM Program but is cluttered with advertisements. I use it only when I want to use a web cam.

Trillian is a really good program but they do not provide the service, only the connection. You must first decide between a provider like MSN, Yahoo, Google, ICQ, or AIM.

Definitely Trillian. You can use any (or all) of the IM providers, and you're not tied to their networks or software.

There's also Gaim which is basically the same thing (but not nearly as usable, IMO).

I use Trillian to it has several messengers built in one. One buddy list for all.

AIM, ICQ, YAHOO, MSN, IRC

I'm also on Trillian. Like what others have said it works just like any other IM except all your contacts are in one place. Talking to someone on MSN, AOL or Yahoo all at once is a snap. It also has a history feature where you can pull up previous chats you've had. I highly recommend it.

Trillian rocks. You don't have to worry about having three or four different things open at once if you know people on more than one messenger program. The free version is plenty to get by on.

Thanks for letting me know :) I need the Dummies Guide here!
So now I just have to figure out which messenger to get - MSN is out with those ads. GoogleTalk does not seem to be covered by Trillian - or is it?
CNET recommends ICQ and Yahoo.

there's no need to "pick an im" with trillian. install it and set up accounts with the various im clients using trillian. then you can talk w/ everyone in one window. it's lovely...

the free version of trillian won't do google, but the pro version does...

i have had trillian for about 4 years now and love it. first piece of shareware i ever purchased.

now. be a good photographer and do what your team captain says and install trillian.

;)

Googletalk isnt covered by trillian. ICQ and Yahoo are covered in trillian of course.

Basicly if ur gonna have friends that only use MSN and people that only use Yahoo and people that only use AIM. You dont want to use 2 3 or even 4 different messengers.

You can use trillian and it will even tell u when u have mail from hotmail, aim, or yahoo
