No idea how big it was, but it was the biggest one I felt in awhile! Gonna go see what I can find out. I was just talking abobut earthquakes at work, they seem to have changed lately from the rolling variety to big quick jolts. I heard the rumble coming, litte shake then house went a for a big shake :).

No USGS email for me yet... if it was bigger than 4.5 ill get a notification within the next 15 mins.

Whoa ... well I assume since you are posting it that you are otay.
Reminds me of myself ... Something happens and I wanna tell the world. I got called up for a random drug test at work today ... "hang on, I need to email my friends before I go" ;P

Looks like a mild earthquake only a 4.2, but I am a few miles from the epicenter. Any other Bay Area Dpcer's feel it?

It must have been right underneath you, Joe. I only felt a bump, but it did shake things up a bit.

Yeah, it rolled through North Oakland too ... lasted about 8 seconds by my count -- much longer than the recent ones nearer the Berkeley hills, which were more of a sharp jolt; this was unusual in the way it felt.

Yeah it was quick and intense, usually I just feel them, it is rare that I hear one too. The Hayward fault runs through my neighborhood, so I didn't know if it was on that fault or not. In a strange way I like earthquakes, atleast the small ones, weird.

USGS is reporting the main quake at 4.2 on the Richter scale, with an aftershock of 2.8 six minutes later (I didn't feel that one). Here's a map showing the location:

About 2 miles over and 9 miles down from my house. No new cracks in the walls BTW, but it got a nice scream out of my daughter.

It was felt as far away as Oxnard, almost 500km away ...

I have eQuake Alert installed in firefox got a 4.2 on it and a 2.8 not to far behind it. I love this little app, quakes pop up pretty quick on it after they hit...

Felt the quake up in the Oakland hills. It was rather quick, but both our dogs gave us a huge stare as if wondering what the heck was happening.

It was interesting as we have a cockatiel and the last earthquake we felt was quick and my parents said the bird started to flip out before it hit. But this time I felt/heard it coming and started to get up and go for cover and then the bird flipped out as the little quake hit.

Ugh.. earthquakes give me the creeps.. The last one I experienced was when I was giving the SAT.. Not the least ominous sign..
