So, I have been looking at joining a professional organization, but I'm not sure which way to go. PPA looks like it has some nice benefits, though quite expensive, but is it better to join my state's association. It seems like I'd get better referrals from my state than from the national level. Thoughts?

Go with your regional division of PPA - Here its Prof. Photogs of North Florida - you should have something similar. That will be less expensive and give you many more opportunities to join events in your area, etc. Our local group does a lot of seminars and mini-workshops too. |

I wouldn't depend on membership for referrals. It's like most organizations one can join, you get back what you put in - so attend the conferences, go to the seminars, make friends and learn.
I joined my local PPA affiliated organization - it's been well worth it on many levels, but if just sat in the studio and waited for something to come to me it would be a waste.

Thanks. I just wasn't sure if the national org had tons more to offer or not.
