Just to get folks out of their slump. Shoot with a prime lens for 1 month and post it here. Folks with non-Dslr cameras can use a 50mm focus length.

Good luck with that... P&S cameras have nowhere near a 50mm focal length. Try somewhere about 8-9 mm :-)

why is 50mm considered prime?

anyway, like Leroy pointed out, a 50mm lens on my 5.x crop factor would allow me to see my neighbour's nosetrills through her bedroom window! LMAO

Prime actually refers to any lens with a fixed focal length.

A 50mm lens on a film SLR (or full frame DSLR) is considered a normal lens since what you see through the lens is what you also see without looking through the lens. To get this focal length on a camera with a crop factor of 1.5 or 1.6 then a lens with a focal length of around 30mm would be needed.

and so, back to original topic, the digital people would have to find a 30mm fixed lens? heh...
