How many of you allready have or are going to buy a mobile phone with a camera?
This thing is finaly catching on and there are quite a few sites that now feature mBlogs(media blog).
SonyEricsson has even put up a website with phone image competitions to promote its t610 phone.
The quality and resolution is improving with every new phone and I personaly am geting wery excited over this new technology. It means you can take a few photos every day and post them directly to a website.
How cool is that...

I prefer the peace & quiet of being without a phone of any type except when I want to make a call. No cell phones for me -- ever!

I have had a Nokia 7650 for some time now (its a work phone) and i very rarely use it for photos - its just not up to the job, more a gimick. However the next generation will be a differnt proposition.

I am waiting for it to get better, I don't see why the quality can't be improved. :)

I would never want a camera phone. Certainly not the type with which the camera is integrated into the phone. For one thing, it means that you would be unable to use the phone (even to send text messages) in courtrooms (photography is strictly prohibited), something which is fucked up if you work as a journalist. Camera phones are also forbidden from many pools, beaches and places where children might be likely to walk around in bathing suits.

Of course, most of those rules are due to UK's somewhat anal-retentive paedophilia-laws, but do you really want a phone that you are not allowed to take out, because it has a camera built in?

Besides, the quality I have seen on cameraphones so far is less than webcam quality, which means that the cameras are basically useless for any photography fun. I have my doubts about the novelty value as well.

When 3G kicks in (known as just "three" in the UK, I believe), things might change, but even then.

Nah - I am gonna be old fashioned.. i'll stick to my t68i for telephoning and my D60 for imaging. Although it does sound tempting to get an Ixus you can always carry around... Hmmh..

Cheers!

...or when do the SLR's which have the ability to post the pics to the internet directly come out?

The reason for phones with the camera are so when you have an accident you can take your own photos and send them to the insurance company from the scene....Did you realize you just took the job of some poor man who did investigating work for insurance companies away from him by taking those photos with your cell phone? Oh and by the way did you know if you would have left the phone at home you wouldn't have been in the accident?

LOL

Interesting, yet slightly annoying that this thread seems to have elicited such intense language. :(

I am not interested in a camera on a phone either. Just seems like a useless gadget. I was not interested in the camera option on my Sony Clie (PDA) for the same reasons, although I am wondering about it's possible usefulness in the event of a traffic accident or what not.

I agree, the language is pretty strong for such a minor subject.

I'll pass on the phone with the camera as well

a few of my friends have camera mobile phones they are connected to the vodafone live network....they are great but cant compare to normal digital cameras, ok viewed in a small window.

one of his nokia phones takes short movies as well but again the quality is ok viewed in a small window.

costs NZ $ .50cents (us .30c) to send a picture though....a tad dear!

IMO the quality of cell phone cameras will top out eventually, for many reasons.

1. size - people want small phones. a better camera in the phone will need more parts.

2. transfer time - the better the image the longer (and more expensive) it will take to send over the phone.

3. memory - better images take up space. you'd need larger built in memory or CF capability. This would also effect #1.

Many more resons exist but these are the biggest that I can think of at the moment.

maybe if it was a camera first, with a phone option being secondary. I don't think Canon is getting into phones though
