Great, I'm waiting for $100 from my 30D rebate. Hopefully it just comes out okay, although I think I did make copies of the UPCs - but still, I'd rather not have to fight about it.

This is actually not uncommon in the rebate world.
You see, most rebates are done thru 3rd party. Only a certain percentage of sales is estimated to take advantage of the rebate. The rebate companies will give a total cost estimate (ie: $2 million).
When that estimate is greatly exceeded there seems to be an odd tendency of rebates not being processed, missing UPCs, etc. It's really easy to toss out UPCs and no way to prove them false. They know this, so they take advantage of it.
I've said for years that Congress needs to pass legislation NOT requiring the original UPC code. They used to require the original receipt. That has ceased to be the case for most rebates.
Don't let them win. And if they still say no to your rebate file a complaint with your better business beaureau and contact your Congressmen. Also call Canon as most rebates are handled by 3rd party companies. There have already been some major law suits by companies against the hired 3rd party rebate centers for this crud. Canon doesn't want to lose customers. But they also only know what's going on when we call and complain.

It really makes TOTAL sense. I mean:
a) at time of sale the receipt and UPC code are there, and it's a known sale. So why not.
b) companies are less likely to screw over a big retail chain that can sue back...or withhold equivalent payment for merchandise on hand |

If they do this the rebates would go away or at the very least be much much less. If they expect 33% of people to redem a $100 rebate then they will only at best have a $33 rebate under that law. which would screw the people that do take adavatage of the rebate. |

Canon has always been good about all the rebates I've sent in on lenses and cameras...I've received every rebate in about 3 weeks.

I've done the Canon rebates two years in a row with no problems. One of the things I do make sure to do though is to staple the original UPC codes right onto the rebate form. That way there's no chance of putting them in the wrong envelope or of them getting lost or misplaced by someone at the other end. Just a thought.

Great, I just got the "No Original UPC" postcard from them. Thank goodness I made copies. I'm on the phone with Canon now trying to fix this mess....*rolls eyes*

That's an interesting suggestion. Should we just purchase things and never file for the rebates then, or just stop buying cameras until they change the system ;-)

Well I finanlly recieved my rebate for my 5D and lens. $670 is worth the rebate and I will continue to take advantage of this special in the future. I will always make copies of my UPCs no doubt about it. Thanks for your advice. Good luck to everyone else waiting! |
