I know the word, but it completely escapes me and I need it now.
When an author writes a book, and it is getting ready to go live, what is the term used? Like debut, but I don't think that is it.
aaarrrrggghhhhhhhh.
My brain has gas today. |

-published
-released
-goes on sale
I think launch is usually used in association with the author's tour to shill for sales.
Publication is the official date the book is available to the public.

"Premiere" (with an "e") is what you want to remember here. A "premier" is a head of state.
(although scalvert had the faster gun)

I think of movies when I think of a "premiere." For books, I think publication or release.
added the 'e'

I think I am going to go with release as well because everyone always asks, "When is the release date?"
JMO :)
ETA: Premiere sounds more like a movie dunnit?

I think that's right -- the books may be in the stores, but can't be delivered to the customer until the official release (c.f. Harry Potter) |

Okay, premiere does sound kind of movie-ish.
Here's what is happening.
I teach a class of Senior Citizens through my position at the community college. Their current project is writing a cookbook. (These kind of things happen when you let the students choose stuff -- I don't have a clue what we're doing).
When it is finished, we are going to have a big ole' "covered dish" (for you non-Southerners, perhaps, it is similar to a potluck dinner) with recipes from the books, and we will be inviting the town officials where the center is, the college officials involved, and the agency-that-runs-the-sr. citizen-centere's bigwigs. There we will premiere/debut/unveil/release the book.
So, which one fits the best? |

From your list, I like "debut" the best.
