well, i live in korea and women here are charging $500 for a 2 hour nude photography session.
in my opinion that's freaking outrageous!
however, i should get a bit of an idea about what the real world prices are.
how much have you seen (or paid) for nude models, male and female?

In NYC, nude female about $250-300 per 8 hr day. She can take lunch and breaks whenever during those 8 hrs.

Why? I'm betting that pretty quickly someone will come up with some math reminding us that being a nude model is a business just like being a photographer, and we've got all kinds of threads running around here justifying anywhere from $2000 to $5000 for an 8 hour day photographing a wedding.
Besides, if it's what the market pays, it's not outrageous. If no one paid them, they wouldn't be charging that much. The better you are, the more you cost. |

actually, it's korean economics. girls here are pseudo-conservative. so they think nudity is worth a lot of money.
it's got nothing to do with supply and demand. korean business will charge what they want to earn, not what they can earn. many, many companies here go out of because they don't relate their fees to market demand.
if $500 was the going rate because of major demand, then i wouldn't be as concerned. but even the korean studios and photography groups complain because it's too expensive to hire nude models.
the models would rather not work, than lower their rates.
hence the thread topic ...

You may want to look for models that just starting out. Stay firm by what you can pay and someone will show up. Then another and another. If you don't need to shoot for a project take your time and someone will turn up.

Dave, as you alluded to, most Asian cultures are still very conservative and traditional, and overt nudity in many cases is the kind of taboo that could bring shame on a family. It may be that the nude models charge a lot because they have more significant risks or have been cut off from the monetary support of their families if their profession has been discovered. Just an idea really. |

I recommend getting a friend to pose nude.
It is my experience that women are totally up for posing as long as they are convinced you're not a perve. You can look at my portfolio and you will realize that I have no nude photography but there is a series of a blonde girl in there who wanted to pose. After the shoot a showed her the "risky" (nude type) photos I would eventually like to do and she was all up for it, which suprised me. I guess she was convinced that I wasn't doing this out of pervyness, WHICH IM NOT :)!
Try that way. It's cheaper and less pressure to perform, as a photographer.

I put a little ad on craigslist.com to find new models for my stock photo shoots. I ask them to include a couple of snapshots in the initial email just so I know what kind of look they have.
Many times the initial emails from women include shots of them nude - they are tasteful photos, but they were obviously nekkid while working with the photographer. When I reply that I'm not looking to shoot that kind of stuff, I generally never hear from them again.
So my experience is you can get those kinds of models for free - Time for Prints actually - you just have to NOT want them.
I'd be interested in what a craigslist ad would do in your part of the world.
On a related note - these girls show up to a shoot all by themselves. Since I'm old enough to be their father, I chastise them as though I were. I would KILL my daughter if she showed up on a shoot with some photog by herself. Now I encourage them to bring another person with them to every shoot - just limiting my liability - knowwhatImean?

I know exactly what you mean and I would not even THINK of shooting a woman nude without a friend/mate/guardian/witness.
Well ... not a stranger.

Economy is based on supply as well -- not just demand. Being conservative constricts the supply just as completely as if there were only a few willing to pose. Not every market is consumer driven!

I'm sure you have hookers in Korea, probably get them for $75 to $100 for an hour or two. Easy work for them. |
