I just received a postcard from Canon declining my rebate because they said an invalid UPC was submitted on one of three items. I made copies of all the papers I sent to them, it is clear that the correct UPC was sent. I am resubmitting my rebate info, but I was just wondering if this happens often? Are they hoping I can not come up with the documentation so they do not have to pay me or is it just an error???? Any feedback??? Thank you.

Canon rebates are handled by an outside rebate company and yeah, I've heard of many "errors" made by them. To the contrary, however, I have submitted for rebates from them 3 different times and had no issues with any of them. Try again, maybe you just got a bad processor or something.

Friggin Canon Rebates

They make mistakes all the time...just stay on top of them and keep copies of EVERYTHING!

Call them.

Same thing happened to me. I called them and they said everything looked like it was in order and they sent me the rebate.

The rebate thing is getting to be a pain in the a--.

Seems like the strategy is to decline and see how many people protest.

Thanks for the feedback...my suspicions are confirmed. I have already sent copies of all my paperwork back to Canon. Let's hope I have luck on try #2!!!

I spent the worst year of my life working as the IT Manager for an insurance company. Beacuse I had 'Manager' in my title, I had the dubious honour of attending the twice weekly 'anti-motivational' meetings so I could listen to the CEO SCREAM about how we were in the business of MAKING MONEY, NOT GIVING IT AWAY!

I imagine rebates exist for the same purpose, and whether or not you jump through all the hoops they 'require', they'll automatically reject a certain number because it fits a money-making formula.

My solution is simply not to buy anything with a rebate attached. If everyone did the same, they'd go away. But, since most consumers are sheep, it'll probably never happen. In my possibly twisted mind, rebates must actually increase the cost of items, as they require all the infrastructure and manpower to implement. It makes no honest sense to me. It's just a dishonest attempt to put a lower sticker price on the items, and steal the money from people through the guise of rebates beign unfullfilled.

Consumers of the world unite! Boycot rebates!

Interesting timing on this one, I just today got a rejection notice from Canon for my 30D rebate. They claim I didn't send the UPCs. I spent almost an hour on the phone getting shuffled between people before I foudn a girl who told me just to send my photocopy of the UPC in with their rejection card and it would be taken care of.

I'll believe it when I see it, but here's hoping.

No card yet but just checked the status online as same deal -> rejected as missing UPC (it is NOT missing - one is a flash and the other a lens). Funny as the boxes have a ^&%$ great chunk out of the side. I guess it's to the phone to deal with this shite for me too..... Sooner they make this illegal the better we will all be.

It's you're money, you shouldn't have to hope. They're crooks for taking you time and your money. :-(

I think Canon farm it out to an insurance company anyway - I suspect it's a money making deal since a lot of people give up and Canon can claim clean-hands as it's not them.

Tamron has the BEST rebate fulfillment I have ever used!

Hello everyone, I just lost my $50 rebate due to the reason of not submitting "the original cut-out UPC". The truth is that I submitted everything to them (the original UPC, the rebate form, copies of warranty card & receipt). I really don't know how they could lost my documents like that, the same problem occured to me a year ago but that time they lost my copied warranty card. I was able to resubmit another one for them. This time I'm out of luck because they want the ORIGINAL CUT-OUT UPC which they lost it.

I taped my original cut-out UPC to the rebate form and they still lost it.

Well, I just hope that this problem won't happen to a lot of people on DPC.

The girl I talked to on the phone told me that "their mail is opened by machine, so things get lost sometimes." Funny how it's the big chunks of cardboard taped to the forms that get lost...hmmm.

I apologize for posting the same thing on 2 different threads. I was just a little frustrated, I wouldn't have done it had I known it would annoy you. I just deleted the other one. For your information I did tape my original cut-out UPC on my rebate form, I assummed they would see it right after they opened it. Well, I was wrong and they said that they couldn't do anything without my original UPC.

not su much as really annoying as just confusing. not to mention you will not get the best feedback. if someone answers you in one thread they people reading the other thread won't see it and can't piggyback off of it.

as far as your rebate, as you can see it has happened to others. I would recommend you call them and they should help you work it out.

I was following this thread when I mailed in the stuff to get my rebate on a Canon lens I bought back in January. I was super careful to do everything Canon wanted including sending them the UPC cut-outs from the lens box. Sure enough, I got The Postcard in the mail telling me that I hadn't sent in the UPC cut-outs, but giving me until April 19 to send them in.

By this time I've forgotten where I put the copies I made of everything I sent in for my rebate. I'd composed my scathing and sarcastic letter, but was still hunting around for the copies, when I opened my mail today. There was my check from Canon in the correct amount. I guess enough people complained that they decided to do the right thing and honor everyone's rebate.

Just thought you guys should know that miracles do happen. 8)

There is only two reasons for any company to use a rebate.
Publicity.

Things fall through cracks.

If people saw the amount of money made off rebates by companies, they'd never fall for it again. That being said, I've experienced both Canon and Nikon rebates and was happily surprised both times. Still, I'd much rather get a good initial deal than bother with a rebate.

They sent me the same post card. Gave only $300 out of the $700 rebate because they said I didn't send in the warranty card on the lens. I called canon, three minutes later I had the other $400 on the way. It arrived today, great to get $700 back, too bad their rebate center is so ......

I received a postcard from Canon this week declining my rebate because it was postmarked after the offer end date. I know I sent it in on time.... I mailed it in February. I'm not sure why it took so long for it to be postmarked! The submission had to be postmarked by March 22nd and when I called Canon today they said mine was postmarked on March 26th. I even spoke to the supervisor and she said they're really strict about the postmark date and that they couldn't do anything about it. I'm so upset because I'm supposed to get $310 back. I called the corporate office and they said they̢۪d have the rebate department look my information over and get back to me within 24 hours. I hope I can get this figured out...
