How do I do this? The internet is very short on info (at least what I could find).

Will Firewire work, for starters? ....and after that?

Thanks in advance.

In what way do you want to link it? As a Hard drive?
As a target drive...both off, connect with firewire, hold down T button on the target disc (laptop), startup up and hold T until you see the firewire logo, then start the other puter.

edit: go here also...//docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=58583
You can also go the wireless route, etc.

I think you can use Firewaire to connect them. The Apple site should have info on it.

You can put an Ethernet hub or switch between them.

You will have to configure the networking either way. Not hard, put has to be done.

Do you have an airport wireless card in each one? If so, you can connect wirelessly.

Otherwise, I'd try an ethernet cable between the two computers. Same concept as the wireless connection.

It would have to be a cross over ethernet cable unless you use a hub.

Hold down the T key on your laptop when you start it up. You'll get a Firewire logo on your screen. Plug one end of a Firewire cable into your laptop, then the other end into your desktop (it doesn't have to be off). The laptop will appear as another hard drive on your G5.

I believe modern Macs can sense whether the cable is crossover or not and handle it automatically.

There are several ways to do this, depending of what, specifically, you want to achieve. FW is easy and fast enough. I mostly use it to transfer files and folders quickly.

Another option may be to sync the two machines via .Mac, if you have an account. This is useful, if you're mainly interested in selected references, such as Mail, Bookmarks, Contacts, Keychains etc.

For FW target mode, you need a FW cable, connect both computers, restart the machine you're transferring from while holding down the "t" key until the FW logo starts to bounce on your screen, find the (sending) drive disk image on the receiving computer desktop, open it, navigate to "User" and access the target files from here: drag and drop.

Very cool. I need to transfer all my Mexico pix to the G5.

I'll try the "t" thing when I get home.

I am curious about the Airport wireless method. Sounds interesting.
