Here it is nearly March, and we are finally getting our first decent snowfall of an extraordinarily mild winter I snapped a couple shots, one out the deck door, the other out the front door, both with the 70-200mm f/4L...

Big, wet snowflakes, still coming down. If the snow stops and we get some light, I'll go shootin' :-)

Can't recall ever getting NO responses to a picture post before, I'll try again. Maybe this is just junk, but it's fun junk...

I'll look forward to seeing some snowy shots from you. Especially if you can capture that glittery, diamond sparkle that new snow has when the sun first hits it. I would really like to know what kind of camera settings to use to try and catch that look.

We're not getting enough snow this year to do that. It was heavy overcloud all day today, and even so the snow's already melting. This was our ONLY snowfall of an substance so far this winter. As far as "diamonds on the snow" goes, your best friend is a carefully adjusted polarizing filter; whenever you see those diamonds you are basically looking up-sun, and if you can control the backscatter the specular highlights will really pop.

Thanks for the tip Robert. I'll have to try that when I get my Pentax back from the warranty work. I think we'll still have snow!
