Bloody hell... My average vote on the top 10 of the BoB challenge is 3,7. There really is no accounting for taste, is there?

I gave your's a 7. It met the challenge in my opinion and was a fairly intriuging shot. Great lighting and it was black on black.
Could someone tell me why this shot did better than this shot? I only got three comments which is very low I find. Maybe I should have called it Black Watch Done in Black and White for the Black on Black Challenge on a Black Background. ;)

My average vote for the top 10 was also pretty low. Only 1 or 2 of them actually fit the challenge in my opinion.

I missed the point first post. My avg. vote for the top 10 pics was 5.9. :)

Since your overall voting average is 4.1, it's hardly surprising that your average vote on the top 10 was 3.7. I'd hate to see what you gave the rest of them.

The average I gave the top ten was 8.5. Very rare for me to agree with many in the top 10. I also gave high marks to photos that ended up 45th and 67th. And of course there was the highly under-rate shot that ended up 59th - sob, sob.

yes. I saw the reflection photo won a prize. Appears to be an inverted picture- otherwise the viewpoint couldn't be right down the line, equidistant between the two images (I have lots of these). Is this illegal to manipulate photos? If not, I've got heaps. |

I can't explain why people voted the way they did. Your photo met the challenge description I think. I don't really like this style of photography and maybe others don't either so maybe that's why it scored low. I didn't vote on yours though but I would have given it 5. |

There were no spot-editing restrictions on this particular challenge. |

It is normally illegal to modify photos in this way, however this particular challenge had no rules.

I found this challenge both difficult to shoot, and more so to vote. It was still a lesson in a new technique though. I'd like to try to reshoot mine. I think either I didn't understand the technique enough to shoot it well, or that people didn't realize the saxophone is a black saxophone... or both! LOL
Thanks for the experience.
If anyone has any suggestions, I'd love to hear them.

Because the first shot is actually more interesting and dramatic? S'why I voted it higher, anyhow. The second is dim, kind of bleh in the composition, and just generally didn't grab me.
I can tell you I thought both fit the challenge, but 'fitting the challenge, no massive flaws, but not particularly interesting either' gets a 5 from me.

Huh. Well, knowing it was a black saxophone doesn't change my vote - it fits the challenge decently well without that, IMHO.

Not trying to take you out of context ;)
Just using your quote as an entry
My little understanding of Black on Black/Low Key was that it was supposed to be dim. The examples given before the voting began on this challenge also directed us toward that.

Not looking for a change of vote... looking for suggestions on how to better portray it.

Dark, yes, and contrasty. But 'faintly heather-grey sticking out of plain black with very little definition at all' doesn't excite me nearly as much as the other watch shot. Like I said - it fit the challenge. It did very little, IMHO, besides 'fit the challenge decently.'

For a normal challenge it IS illegal to manipulate photos. (this one had special rules) However, you can not use photo you already have for these challenges. You have to physically take the photo between the submission dates. You only have a one week period where you can take and submit your photos. So you can not enter photos you have in your stock pile.

Thank you Kim...er I mean Karen. Sorry. ;) At least someone saw it the same way I did. Of course I realize my subject matter was not very captivating but it did meet the challenge at least IMHO.

Imho the second shot definately fits the challenge, the first is showing way to many highlights and pure white. I must also admit that neither one does much to excite me, but I also dont wear a watch.;)

I didn't do the math, but I thought the BoB challenge shots were pretty good overall. I only gave one 10 (to Inga-Fang's wonderful leaves), but I had a lot of 7s, 8s, and 9s. I was pretty liberal about the low key aspects. |
