OK so are we going to do the 14th or the 15th? Next thing where are we going to go, Zoo? Botanical Gardens? Elsewhere? I'll clear my schedule barring anything from the newspaper for one of those days, sunday is likely a better day for me, however if saturday is the best for everyone else, then I can do at least 4 hours or so on that day either morning or afternoon.

Zoo sounds fine with me, I don't really know if there's anything image worthy around forest park but it's near so that's an idea. What's everyone else think? |

coming from memphis, we'll likely make this a two day thing, so either day is fine for the zoo...
anyone else bringing spouse & kids? maybe we could plan a second activity that's kid friendly? (mine's 3)

My wife and 10 year old son will be with me unless they decide they dont want to hang out with a bunch of camera toting geeks!

that weekend is good for me. *jotting it on the calendar*
Forest park has plenty of things to shoot and its right outside the zoo on the North entrance so we could wander off that way if we get tired of the zoo. Could even picnic on the lawn in front of the Art museum if we wanted to. You can usually catch families flying kites and wedding parties getting portraits by the fountains. There are also paddle boats you can rent to go out in the fountain and down the lake area. There is the opera house where I got some great shots. And the gazebo.
There should be some flowers popping up around then too.
Parking at the zoo is 10.00 unless you wanted to park on the street. The street is usually quite crowded during warm weather. I would suggest parking in the North lot so you wont have to walk back so far if we end up going to the park.
I will more than likely bring my husband, I don't drive down in the city!

I would prefer Saturday to Sunday because of the drive....but I would still be in for Sunday if that's all that's possible.
The zoo and forest park sound good to me, though I'm interested in the botanical gardens as well. And someone mentioned a butterfly house that I'm sure I could spend hours in :-)
If we do zoo type locations, I'll probably be able to bring my hubby along--as he loves the zoo too :-) |

Forest park also has a neat lake in front of the Muny theater and another one with a big fountain in the middle at the bottom of art hill, A few small waterfalls (man made, but still nice) the jewel box, which is a nice greenhouse, and the butterfly garden is small but has tons of butterflies, which don't mind people getting within inches of them.

any of the places you are talking about are fine with me. I have been to most of them but never to take pictures, I've just been playing with photography about 10 months. If i can get my wife to come i may try and stay Sat and Sun. I would like to shoot some downtown also. |

I'm with griz on this. I've been to the zoo quite a few times, but haven't brought the camera...and I don't know why!
Downtown, there are the old courthouse/fountains/arch shots, Busch Stadium, City Hall looks neat with the old weathered stone.
Grant's farm will be closed until April 18. |

OK lets do it this way, lets do a saturday morning Zoo thing, afternoon Forrest park, maybe downtown thing for those that want to do anything. Then anyone who wants to do a Sunday thing they can plan what they want to do. I'll likely just do the zoo thing as doing too much in one day will wear out my little one. So lets plan something like this sound good to everyone?

Isn't the Spaghetti Factory downtown? Zoo, downtown, and dinner sounds good. I usually eat at Morgan Street Brewery when I'm there, but am always willing to try something new! My husband might come and play golf while we shoot and join us when he's done. |

Sounds great. The zoo is more or less in the middle of Forest Park, and since there is no admission fee, we can choose to go between the zoo and the rest of the park as we feel like it.
Just so everyone knows, there is usually a $4.00 per person ticket price for the insectarium/butterfly house, but the last time I went it was just open, so I'm not sure.

Originally posted by MattO: OK folks, we talked about it last fall. Now lets try to get a GTG in the St. Louis Area organized. Warm weather will be here soon and I'd like to go shooting. I'm thinking maybe a St. Louis Zoo or Missouri Botanical Gardens GTG sometime this spring. If your interested post here with ideas for when/where/what time we can do this. I'm pretty open on where, and when is just dependant on my schedule.

*****UPDATE******
OK folks it looks like we are going to do a GTG the weekend of April 14th-15th. I'm looking for a start at the St. Louis Zoo on Saturday morning meet up close to the front at between 9am and 10am. We will work that detail out later. I'm not sure on how many are coming or who all they are bringing so we need to work on getting the best time for everyone. After we shoot a bit I'll have to stop and get my little one food, he has to eat every couple of hours or trust me you all would kick me out of the group in a hurry. :-)
When we get done at the zoo I will likely bow out of the GTG depending on how tired my little one gets. The plans after that are up to everyone else, from what I take some would like to go to Forrest Park which is right next to the zoo, some would like to go downtown. Its pretty open. I'd like someone to step in and set up the rest of the GTG for when I wont be with you all, that way there is some sort of direction and not so much wasted time trying to decide what to do. Anyway please PM me if your up for the GTG and I'll make a list here for those that plan to attend.

Bump up for the update.
