Let the site loader load your images or add a preload for all images once you click on gallery. It was from a template, with some changes (thanks to howzit)

Cheers Judi! Just a question...how do you go with time in loading the page? Seems overseas people are finding it slow. |
I hit 15 seconds for a full load! And that is on a 512 speed.

Welcome to Australia. We have some of the slowest speeds in the world! Mine is 2 mb and that's fast!! It's crap! That probably doesn't help with speeds from overseas too perhaps? I don't know!

Wow that is crazy... I have to say that the transition from the dial up era to broadband was a big step and I will never go back. I'm sure that a lot of us wouldn't. I have to say that about the 10MB vs. the 1Mb and below. That is like Dial up to me. But I have to have a lot though because I am uploading and downloading things all day for work. I tell you what though once you get it you will LOVE it.
For those on T1 or T3 lines I worship you. I don't need that much but it sure would be nice to have sometimes.
Where are you in Australia??? I have a buddy that lives in Perth.

Yeah, northern suburbs of Perth! On the outskirts!
There has been a lot of arguing between companies and govenrments lately about our internet speeds and how behind we are! It's pathetic really. I don't really know the whole jist of it all! But, we are very behind compared to speeds in the US and Europe!

But thanks for the feedback guys! A few issues obviously but I'll try some tweeking and see how it goes. In defence of the site, the photos on the main page are just a background, they are their for decoration compared to the gallery. But, I'll take it all on board! Cheers! :)

This doesn't make sense. You have a 10 Mb/s connection so a 1 Mb/s connection feels like dial-up, ok, but then you worship people with T1 connections which are 1.5 Mb/s? T3 (45 Mb/s) I get but the T1 is confusing. Is it because it's symmetrical? I would be surprised if an ISP offered a 10 Mb/s connection with an upload below 1.5 Mb/s. What bandwidth does your package offer? |

Hi Neil,
Initial load just now, was around 30 seconds, on a basic-level dsl connection. As most of your site is in flash, I assume most of the initial load time is due to the images being brought to the front-end. What kind of image compression / file size are they now? Regardless of the internet connection speeds, viewers' computers have a huge impact on how long it takes to load as well, as the data has to get through all the components, to the drive to get in cache, to be viewed.
As much as I like the sound and the type of music you chose, I think I have to agree that after the novelty wears off a bit, it gets to be a bit much. Good that you do have the option there to turn it off.
Very professional looking - nice job! |

Hey Brad...cheers for the feedback. Most of the images on the frontend are about 16-20k in size, except for the 7 images changing in the background which are approx 150k each! Most of the images in the gallery are about 150k as well.
Yeah, music seems to be frowned upon by people on here, but, that's why there's an on/off option I suppose! For myself, I like a bit of music whilst browsing! Cheers mate!

You might like it, but how about your potential clients? If they don't like it, they'll click that x as fast as I do. And that's a no client then.
Not to be rude, but it's not about what YOU like, it's about what THEY like. |

I know. But before I found it, the irritating-level is there and I'm off the site.
The idea is allright, don't get me wrong, and you do whatever you think you have to do, but I'm just not into every genre of music... you see what I mean?

So are you saying it's the type of music that bothers you or just music in general??
I'm not having a go, just getting feedback in general....everyone has different opinions so it's just nice to see the reason why...that's all! It's appreciated!

that's nice of you to say, thanks. I thought I might have been to harsh on you ;)
Music on sites bother me in general, yes. The music on your site is very personal, at least I think you chose it with a reason. Not everybody likes that type of music. All people have a different taste of music. So, what I want to ask you, do you only want clients who like this music?
(and I know there's a button to turn it off, haha ;)) |

Hmmm....good question. Personal to me? No, not really. My wife and I had quite a discussion on it. Of course it's not going to appeal to everyone...I guess that's part of the problem? I don't think it would matter what type of music I put on, there would be someone it doesn't appeal to, so in actually having the music there it's catch 22! I do plan on toning down the volume of it when I get time but whether it goes completely or not I'm not sure. The feedback at the moment sure doesn't sit well with it! lol Thanks hanneke.

Well congratulations on a very nice site ... would like to see the portfolio just a tad larger but it is looking good. I saw all the images (except I didn't do the newborns) before I was starting to think about hitting the music off button ... so I guess that is a good sign and shows that it was not TOO irritating to me.
If your portfolio was a bit larger, though, I think I would have gotten around to clicking it off.
Once again, congratulations on a very classy looking website.

A couple thoughts on the music thing.
I can't have a day without music - it's part of my life, it's on everywhere I go. Now when I visit a website, and that site pushes their music in on top of what I am listening to, well it gets frustrating. Another issue with website-loaded music, is the surprise effect. Here's scenario: a viewer comes into your site after the kids are in bed, it's late at night, house is silent, and BAM! the music plays and you scramble for the volume.
That is real-world and will probably get a page close without a return, as the initial impression is negative, and that is something you do not want to do at any cost.
Maybe have the default off, and if a viewer wants to listen, they can switch it on by choice?
