Yup. 50mm, manual mode at about 2 feet, 1/160 at f/8 using TTL

Would be interesting to see the test with the flash set in manual mode, just to see what kind of light loss each method gives.

So how much would you charge for one w/shipping? Yes - I am that lazy.

For you zilch! :-D

You might want to take a look at this video. I think it looks like a good idea (to make one yourself--he's charging way too much if you order from him).

To me the lightsphere is too clunky on my 420EX. The version in the video would be lighter and more manageable. I might try it even though I have the lightsphere (and several Stofen models).

One tip I didn't realize that Fong and the video shows, is using the flash head sideways when using either the lightsphere or this other bounce. That makes it easier to switch to portrait mode.

An even simpler version I learned at school, same principle. Use a piece of ordinary white paper and an elastic band. No tape residue and easily comes on and (sometimes too easily) off. Plus you can fold it up and stick in your pocket. No pocket? Try your underpants.

Is there a 1-800 number we can call for the Grandwazzdiddlethingie?

Bottom line, I recommend the Lumiquest products, or make your own similar setup like Waz did.

I do agree and this is a darn good design ... //www.youtube.com/watch?v=RNCmuExlHvM

But you stink at the gimmick part :-P

Dude! 18minutes of that guy? No fast forward? Can't do it...

But I am gonna make another one but this time I am putting flames on it!! :-P

He might be hard to handle for 18 minutes, but I like his little bouncer. Gonna make one :) Or 10.

There is no tape residue it's all paper and plastic inside. It will slide on and off with ease, it weights nothing and you can move the flash head in all directions the manufacturer intended.

But I like the underpants idea. It's the taking off the pants in front of the client that bothers me. :-P

Neil that video Leroy posted earlier. No way could I sit through 18mins of that guy when it only took me 5mins to make my TheGrandwazzadle! :-P

Great video. I will be off to Michaels to see if I can find some of that foam paper. He is charging way too much I think. I have a live band shoot at a local bar coming up in a couple of weeks. This could be a great thing to have.

Walmart has the stuff for less than 50 cents a sheet and it makes two. You'll find it in the craft/sewing section. And the rubber bands they use to hold broccoli bunches together is great for holding the diffuser to the flash unit.

Tim also (too???)

While I like the Fongster, I have become disillusioned with using it at events. It does a good job, but it looks stupid. It makes me look stupid.

What makes people think you look cool (genuinely) is when you have as makeshift a reflector as possible - as if you are MacGuyver, making photography tools out of nothing in order to get your perfect shot.

I am therefore increasingly a convert of a torn wad of paper attached to the back of the flash by rubber bands as a reflector. The more torn the paper, the more spontaneous (and therefore cooler) you appear. A battered L lens goes a long way to perfect this look.

I think that the Grandwazzdiddlewiddle is an improvement over the Lightsphere, but it runs the risk of looking too pre-prepared.

Who says its about the image? It's about how cool you look when making the image.

The incredible propensity of the Fongsphere to fall off or become lost in other fashions is a glaring design weakness. Even if it DID look cool, it falling off repeatedly is decidely uncool.

And it fits NOWHERE in a camera case. Glaring weakness #2.

That's a good idea, but I like the strap on my bag to be, well, a strap :)
