Darren, very sorry to hear about your stepdad. Here's hoping he recovers fully and quickly. Head injuries are hard to diagnose sometimes. And yes, scores are pretty much irrelevant in the long run. |

ouch. burns really suck and they take a long time to heal. i hope everything works out for you.
i knocked an ashtray next to my bed over once and woke up to a room full of smoke and a burn on my back the size of a small plate. it healed eventually but damn it hurt for a while.
i undertand the fear of boiling anything, to this day i am a little suspicious of mattress'.

Well, folks....It appears that I am done.
I can no longer upload pictures with this sh*t Internet/phone service that I have.
I did get the new job and since I have to get up at 4:00 A.M., am having trouble adjusting my body clock, and just don't have the fortitude to fight with Earthlink and Embarq about it, I guess I can no longer participate on DP Challenge.
I may get a laptop at some point, and be able to participate in a limited manner from my work, but that's pretty far in the future, methinks.
It has been enormously fun and I owe you all a giant debt of gratitude for all you have taught me.
You probably ought to replace me on Entropy when you get a new prospect.
This *REALLY* sucks.....I hate this sooooooo bad!
Take care,
Jeb
Hey, any of you that care to......I'd love to hear from you at:
whiskeyspringstudios@earthlink.net
ETA: This doesn't seem to work as an e-mail link.......I give up....

That is sad NikonJeb. Hopefully, the new job does not stop you from taking photos, that is one part you should not give up. |

Oh no.......not a chance!
I just don't have the intestinal fortitude to fight with a succession of a$$holes in customer service who couldn't give a rat's a$$ about my situation and/or come up with a solution, and I just don't know how to get up through the system to get someone who can actually do something.
I'm not willing to endure the frustration and put my family through my being pissed off for days because I'm not getting a service I am paying for and cannot get them to make it right while I burn up twenty hours or so.
I've been through this so many times before.....
EDIT: Typos

I can use my daughter's laptop and occasionally enter a challenge here and there, as I can take it to work or to my church to upload, but I really don't want to be an anvil on my teammates.
If that's okay that I'd only enter something a couple times a month....

NikonJeb I'm not on Team Entropy and thus in no position to say yay or nay to occasional entries, but I know I'll miss you if you aren't around on Team Suck! |

nikonjeb, I'd really hate to see you leave. I know dial-up is a real pain in the backside and just how difficult it can be. Even if you aren't able to participate all of the time, you can still stop by Team Suck Clubhouse and let us know that we still suck. |

I just start using them, and they really can make a lousy image quite decent. This photo was just terrible straight from camera, and while it isn't a prize-winner now, either, I used a flashlight effect that made a huge difference:
To try these out, go to Filter, Render, then Lighting Effects. Lots of fun! |
Thanks for this suggestion. A friend introduced me to Render Clouds, and while I don't use it for DPC (except it could be used under expert rules), it has been very useful to turn a really boring blue sky into a nice background. It's under Filter>Render>Clouds.
It seems to work with the colors you have selected for background and foreground, so choose those before you do the render clouds. Depending on the effect you want you could use blue/white, blue/gray, gray/white, or I guess you could even use orange/red if you wanted to play with a sunset effect (I haven't tried that). |

I mainly use render tecniques to change lighting that is existant in the photo, but not exactly as I'd like it. I use the directional light, flashlight and spotlight effects a lot. I've started noticing some high-scoring photos that either made use of these or similar lighting effects. I'll post up some more examles when I make them. |

I'd be real careful with that. My DQ was exactly for that. I used the spotlight effect and it was considered a major element being added. I'm not sure how the change in rules have affected this, but it was never allowed before.

thanks catherine, that's exactly the effect i've always tried for, since i got into photography over 20 years ago!
jeb - stay! as others have said, i'm not on team entropy, but, hey, if we can't be flexible here, what's the point, eh? it's not like we're hyper competitive or anything. you are a 'value added' feature, and we need and want you. so, if we get a little less of you, then we'll just appreciate you all the more, right?
darren, i hope your dad is ok, and the stroke wasn't too big.

P.S. ... Don't forget to watch out for my TOTALLY Off-The-Wall/Out-Of-the-Box "Love" challenge image at rollover. It is so far gone that it is sure to make you spit out whatever you are drinking. I cannot WAIT for the comments on THIS one. LOL!

Hi gang. I'm here with unfortunate news about JerseyGenie.
She's in town for training and she and I hooked up to go shoot DC things tonight, along with JimyThing.
Our first stop was the Iwo Jima Memorial. After taking a few shots each, Jeanne fell over her camera bag and broke her leg. We called 911, and I went to the hospital with her. After a couple of hours, she managed to reach her son, who lives here, and he came. Her husband's driving down from New Jersey, and should be here within an hour, I'd guess.
I asked her if it was okay to tell all of you, and she said sure. She was in a lot of pain, but was still kidding with me.
In Jeanne's honor, here's a shot of her ambulance next to the memorial:

Sheesh, *now* we get an "Ice" challenge?? After the last couple of days all of the local ice has melted away! Too bad I can't use any of my "Where I live" entries in this one.

Aww, Jeanne, so sorry to hear that! Sounds like something I would do if that makes you feel any better. :-) Hopefully you'll get pampered and spoiled rotten by your family. Please let us know how you're doing when you get a chance. And this looks like the perfect opportunity (whether you like it or not!) to work on some UFOs.
Hope you got a good shot or two before the ambulance hauled you away! |

Jeb - one word for you - satellite. They're a lot cheaper than they used to be. Look into it and see what you think. Otherwise, you can't let the frustration of "customer service" deter you, or they win. Besides, not having access will just add to your frustration level, won't it? Alternatives are the library, etc, as you've mentioned. You just need to check in a couple times a week to what the challenges are and to submit. |
