I shot a series of photos from 18mm to 800mm to give people an idea of the increased magnification and the decreased field of view. All shot are unedited, shot at f8 and ISO 400.

Had had the WB set to auto, and as you can see the light conditions were changing. I used matrix metering, Aperature priority, and EV +1.

Wowsers, 800mm me up!
I'd need a cast iron tripod with concrete legs for that thing.

Do you have some sort of teleconverter or is that 800mm equiv?

id guess he used the Nikon AF Zoom-Nikkor 200-400mm f/4.0G IF-ED
with a 2x?

anyone ever tried stacking those 2x converters?
200-400mm f/4.0G IF-ED + 2 2x = 1600mm? lol that'd be cool

That is correct.

Here is the 800mm shot sharpened with my normal technique.

The D200 is not full-frame, right?

D200 is 1.5x FOV Crop like all other nikons last i checked. The lense is 400mm max focal length. Hes measuring 800mm in non 35mm terms. And its apparent he has a 2x teleconverter.

does the d200 auto focus with a 2x on a f4 lens? non 1 series canons will not.

Good question and probly not is the answer.

I've always wondered what 400mm would give you on a FF sensor. So I'm assuming it's less than your 400mm but more than your 200mm...

Corrected- According to the owners manual it does not work. However, it seems to work. I can't tell how well right now as it's too dark outside. I'll test again tomorrow.
