Nice one, worth buying one then? especially for wildlife photography..

I think so - Alan (Mr_Pants) reckoned that it really works at its best only when stopped down to f8 or f10, but I think it still produces acceptable images at lower f-stops. It is less sharp than the 70-200, but more sharp than the 70-200 with an equivalent digital zoom applied.

I might get a 1.4x at some point as well. I hear that is a good bit of kit, barely affecting the image quality at all (though the multiplier is less than amazing).

I definitely recommend the 1.4x tele, since it makes the 70-200 a 98-280 with the loss of only one stop, and negligible softening (especially when compared to the 2x tele). I'n fact, I'd rate the 70-200+1.4x as comparible to the optics of the 100-400 for the covered range.

Really p***ed I couldn't make this GTG, but from what I see, apart from one or two photos of deer, most are of photogs in their natural habitat. And, it was the mating season!!

Joking guys, it looks to have been a great day out and a fun day. Hopefully I can get to the next one! Stunning photos all!!

Wow, you really captured the social aspect of the GTG! Some great memories in there; I especially like the shot where we all chimp over the group picture. And I guess I have to practise panning some more, the ones you uploaded look really cool.

Thanks! I've had quite a bit of practice at these GTG things, and I've found that most people concentrate too much on the shots they're after, and not so much on keeping a record of everyone there... which is something I seem to be good at :o)

I've updated all the shots with lens & people info, including the silly Canon 560-1600mm/f22 that

Matthew made with those three 2x teles ;o)

ROCK ON DUDE!!! great set of shots we should do it again sometime.. there is another park in Knebworth that boasts a bunch of Dear and a stately home with gardens etc etc .. might give it a shout in a few months..
