I totally agree actually, animated ones would get very annoying...it was just a question that I probably should not have brought up. |

Kavey - it's true. I thought about this. But it is just a toy, and an optional one at that. That's why I gave them a SuperCool(TM)! =)
Pug-H, the link you sent me was to the image page (//www.dpchallenge.com/image.php?IMAGE_ID=470866). I need the link to the actual image (//images.dpchallenge.com/images_portfolio/25355/orig/470866.gif).
Transparency is easy in the Gimp:
1. Right-click and save our little friend to your disk
2. Open the image - it already has transparency, noted by the checkered background.
3. Right click the image, go to Image->Mode->RGB
4. Paint around on him very closely zoomed in. Another trick is to right-click, New View. This way you have a 100% zoomed image to look at as you edit the 1600% zoomed image. Also, right-click, select View, and uncheck "Show layer boundary". I hate that yellow border.
5. After you're done editing, right-click the image and select Image->Mode->Indexed. The default options are ok.
6. Right-click, save as a gif, and upload to DPC to PM me the link.
Cheers,
-Jeff |

Uninstall with Tools->GreaseMonkey->Manage User Scripts. Select the "new comments" one and click uninstall.
I can make it strip out animation, if it doesn't already. Maybe it would also be more fair to make it a members only thing.

I simply haven't asked for the DPCmod page to be on the Community Projects page yet. I don't have time to ask right now. And frankly, since the mods "mess with the site", it just sorta feels like it might be frowned upon. =) I dunno...

easy peasy, thank you squeezy :D
(ofcourse a great add, but it annoys me because I always check my new comments at the left side) |

<-- Simple icon
Nice mod. :)
To change the colors of the original I just made manual lasso selections, made a new adjustment layer "Hue Saturation", checked "colorize" and played with the sliders. 1 minute of work.

Maybe we should agree that they are the only ones who can have sunglasses? :)

only in the forums, or is it gonna be available for the whole site?
(profile-page, comments, etc) |

I think a feature should be installed on DPC for all members to at very least be able to choose their own shirt color. The SC would still have different hair styles to distinguish the difference.

I strongly suggest you ask permission directly from Langdon FIRST before you distribute this hack to the site. |

i like the simplicity of the forums now. the profile pic mod was a great add, but the rest of this stuff is soon going to clutter up the forums to the point that they look like every other generic website out there.
that, and _i_ should the only one with devil horns here. :) i EARNED those! |

which is the beauty of them being mods. You only have to see and use what you want to. |

I don't think that any of the mods could be considered to be "interfereing with or disrupting" the site.
All mods are self elected and only affect your own experience of the site. Elvis_L hit the nail on the head in the previous post. If you don't like it - no hard feelings - don't use it.
They're all simply in good fun. |

Part of the point of site design is to present a uniform appearance to all users. Your "software routine" clearly interfers with that process, IMO.
Since I don't own the site, I'm not prepared to offer a competely authoritative opinion or tell you to stop immediately, but was rather suggesting a way for you to either gain official approval, or shut it down before you got in trouble.
Many things done "in good fun" end in tragic denoument -- I'd rather yours wasn't one of them. But that's your choice ... |

The emphasis on a site philosophy to avoid clutter has always been admirable. This unauthorized feature appears fairly bland especially since I don't have to look at it. But I wonder what the approval of the WPL will eventually do to the site. |
