Pucker up! a friend of mine's quote after we both got our dismal 4.2 scores in the current challenge. just thought i'd share :-)

Nice to know you are taking it so well...

4.2! You're up to 4.2? and bitchin? I'm at 4.09, totally frustrated, but knowing I took the risk of my shot. Did you?
Make that 4.06.
Make that 4.16

Hey Swashbuckler -- I feel your pain. I'm oscillating between 4.1 and 4.3 today -- looks like I should achieve a new low score this week on DPChallenge! That should count for something, right? ;-)

Actually, I had fun taking the photo this week, so the score doesn't mean that much. If I can get Hokie to comment on my photo, I consider it a good week..... ;-)

I'm walking a fine line between 4.1 and 3.9! Prizes for lowest this week?
10/21/2002 08:44:58 PM · #6
well guys.... I'm between 4.8 and 4.9 .... and I thought I'd get a 5.5 or so.... though break for a lots of us I think. :o)

But like Lansnake I had a great time shooting + I learned a lot so I give myself a 8! :oP

I am putting my name on in the comments, so if you need to discuss something I missed. I am willing to listen. :) I only voted on 39. wow 200+ to go. ugh! By the way swashbuckler I wrote you back.

Doesn't make my 5.7 look so bad!! Thanks for making my day! I have only made it to 42 photos so far, so I'm far from done. Maybe they'll perk up soon!

I'm at 3.9 which surprises me a little...not much though. Being all tied up with 4 kids this past week, I only shot about 5 pictures. The one I submitted was not planned, it just happened, but I thought it was better than the voters think...lol oh well. I honestly am past getting bummed over a low score, unless I considered my work a masterpiece. I don't.

So I take it my 7.58 is pretty good going this week then.. :-)

Go Mark!
I remember you saying you were somewhat pleased with this week's entry - glad to see it's doing the business for you.

How are your nerves holding up?

I am starting a DP anonymous 12 step program if anyone is interested :-)

While the scores make it interesting for me, and provide the insight into how my pictures are perceived.
I am more interested in the comments, rather than in the score (although, I will admit it would be nice to get a high score).

It went up slightly further earlier, but recently someone must of voted a 1 on it as I took a hit of almost .5 over 1 single vote... Damn pesky fraudulant voters..
If you look at any of the winning entries ther are always some pople who vote them 1 or 2... Even if a picture meets the challenge I give it a 5 and at most deduct 2 if the shot is truely awful.. These people who vote 1 or 2 should be exposed and asked to explain why they voted so low on photos that even if they hated them, are almost technically perfect.

Because, to some of us it's about the overall image and not it's technical perfection.

Ouch!
Take heart in the fact that a few votes in a few hundred isn't going to make too much difference. Plus, all the other 'front-runners' are likely getting the same 1's & 2's.
Then there's the end of week anti-cheat script.
The cream will (mostly) always rise to the top.

Doesn't really mean that your 1 vote gave you a 1. You may have only registered 1 new vote, but people who had previously voted could have lowered their score. I had gotten an email from someone awhile back saying that I had given them a great comment, and then voted them low, and they wanted to know why I did that. Well, fact is, I voted them high and asked why they thought I voted them low. And they said that they KNEW I voted low cause they only got 1 new vote, and their score dropped.
Well, that's how I came to that conclusion. That the new vote doesn't really have to be the one that dropped your score. Could have been revised old votes.
Now that I have confused everyone, I'm going to make some comments. LOL

Having trouble with your 'D' key there Doc? ;)
Glad you liked it - I got a buzz from seeing my first dpc entry do so well, though this week is gonna bring me back down to earth with a thud!
