I just installed Office 2007 (Word, Excel, Powerpoint and OneNote) and I'm already in love.
My question is if I should add Outlook to the collection. Here is why I am hesitating:

I have been using Incredimail for years now and I love it.
I love the pretty backgrounds and a bunch of other features, but most of all I adore having a different notifier for each person. Depending on who the email is from, I get to see and hear either a duck, a dog, a flag, a song, etc. Even if Incredimail isn't open, the notifiers still turn up. When I'm not at the computer but somewhere nearby, I often have the speakers turned up and I know right away who wrote to me.

I'm sure some of you have already played with the trial version.

Does Outlook 2007 have notifiers of any sort?

You can have Outlook play a sound when mail is received, but it's not customizable by sender, at least as far as I know. Bottom line, if you like the email program you're using and there are no major features that you really feel are lacking, you don't need to switch.
Outlook 2007 has a *lot* of nice functionality for business users, including ability to manage your own (and others') calendars, schedule meetings, do collaborative work (assuming the business runs a SharePoint server). I just installed it as my email client at home, mainly because I need the calendar function. Otherwise, I'd probably stay with a simpler client.

Thanks, Fritz.
For what it's worth, I would like to have Outlook because I just fell in love with OneNote, and the two of them would work together so well.

Is there anybody out there who has actually TRIED Outlook 2007 yet?

I haven't used 07 yet but this is how I THINK you do it (at least in 03 it is). I also do see where you can have different messages come up instead of just a sound).

-When you have outlook all set up, (you must have your address book created) go in under tools and find the RULES and ALERTS option.
-Create a new rule
-Click start from a blank rule (top of window)
-Select "when messages arrive)
-click next
-select what you want outlook to look for in the incoming email..from people or distribution list is what I think you need
-Notice it added it to the box below. Click the underlined hyperlink.
-double click the people you want
-click ok
-notice they are now in the bottow box
-click next
-click what you want to happen when those people send you email...scoll down to play a sound and select it (you can select more than one thing)
-click the sound hyperlink in the bottom box
-find and select the sound you want
-click finish or next if you want other options.

I also set up folders on the right and use rules to have certain peoples emails moved from my inbox...this is handy when you really don't care about that person that always sends stuff you just don't have time for.

good luck, I hope i did it right.

I have 2007 and have used it. It is nothing like Incredimail, it is more designed for business use and there is not much "fun" to it. So, if you want to be more serious Outlook it is, for playful eyecandy keep your Incredimail. :)

AHA, Scott is correct; by setting up a new email rule, you can specify a sound to play "when a specified word appears in the senders address" which should allow you to differentiate between senders the way you want.

Perhaps someone will come up with a plug-in of sorts eventually. I might ask again a few months from now.
Thank you all very much for your input.
