I am competitive congenitally and fiercely so.
Anyone here entering challenges is competitive. But I confess I have zero (possibly less than zero if that's possible) interest in the league competitions here. I know a lot of people care, but I'm not one of them. I guess I was born w/o the league gene. Perhaps a throwback to simpler times ... mano a mano ... personal combat, not team sports. (What if George W had to go three rounds with the President of Iran? But I digress.)
Please can this (league) activity have it's own forum, and can the forum itself be "ignorable" so I can ignore the whole forum and never see the who ha people feel compelled to share?
Thank you. Now back to your regularly scheduled programming.

I was going to ask if you could ignore a whole section of the forums, but I found it in preferences. I didn't even know that was an option! Amazing what you learn when you keep poking around!

I'm confused, you mean you are a competitive person, but don't like to belong? A lot of people enjoy and learn a lot from the 'league' culture here. Why bother being a part of a site that is a team site, all photogs of different levels competing on a regular basis for no rewards!!
I, for one, enjoy the league chat, the inter-group rivalry. I am not ultra competitive, neither am I an out and out loner. I just enjoy this site and the people here. |

To be fair, DPC isn't really a "team site" -- though there certainly is room for things like WPL and the team concept.
The OP's question is a fair one. It's reasonable to expect that they'd prefer not to see those threads on their front page, and instead to see threads that are more relevant to them. Fortunately, this is possible, as you can decide which forum folders appear on your front page by going to your Preferences page, and turning off the "Side Challenges and Tournaments" folder. If you wish to see some, but not all, threads from that folder, members can ignore individual forum threads by selecting the Ignore Thread option from within the relevant (irrelevant?) thread.

Yep, the option is there, so why stir things up? This thread is just for that purpose. Dr Confuser could have just asked if there was any way of shutting off certain threads, without having a blast at 'league' threads.
If I am wrong I apologise. |

Another season (WPL 5) or so, WPL 6 at the latest, the WPL will be it's own entity with a standalone website. At least that's what it looks like with the direction Scott wants to take it. It will interesting to see if at that point the WPL comes up with it's own challenges or not. At that point I'll be finished with the WPL as I prefer DPChallenge myself. :D |

Sorry to be misunderstood. Not a blast against leagues.
I sometimes exaggerate to make point. Just a personal point of view and a personal preference.
Thanks all for the tip. |

I think the OP had no idea he could turn off that section of the forums, so if it wasn't already possible he was just making his argument as to why he would like to ignore it. :) |

Thanks for that, maybe I was too quick defending the leagues. Hope there are no ill feelings. |

No harm, no fowl. You've been around here a long while and I respect your point of view. Now can we declare this thread well and truely dead? |

As the person that runs the WPL I respect the OP'ers question. Some people just don't want to see all the team threads on their front page. I personally did not know you could not turn the complete section off. That's why I came up with the WPL forum to give the WPL participants a place to chat about the WPL at the same time giving respect to those that did not want to see them at DPC.

I actually watch that during the olympics. What is it about that sport that translates so well to TV? lol! |
