With your dodge and burn action, I think you have answered your own question. A great photo has a great subject, but it also has a background that provides context and highlights the subject. If you photo's background had added context that made the subject special, innovative or helped it convey an emotional payload, the photo overall would have been better. Does that make any sense? |

One of the big keys to nude photography is lighting. It seems to make it or break it. I am not that great at it either, but I have been doing a lot of studying over the past few months. I suggest you pick up one of the following books as they have been instrumental to me:
"Lighting for Nude Photography"
Rod Asford
RotoVision Books
"Lighting the Nude, Top Photography Professionals Share Their Secrets"
Rodger Hicks, Frances Schultz, Alex Larg and Jane Wood
RotoVision Books
Also you may consider joining my google group:

we are small now, but growing.

layer, burned
layer, painted low op and flow brush with sample for truer colour
layer, blurred some blended some healed some
layer 50% gray painted highlights in hair
layer warmed, softened slightly
cropped 2x
I find the flower in front to be a bit distracting... perhaps if it was held closer to the models body with just one hand and placed between the breasts instead... lighing is harsh on her skin you might try just a little makeup on the body to help absorb some of the light? I don't know :) might help... background (learning this the hard way myself) you should always pay special attention... any distracting elements are hard to remove afer the fact... I did a healing brush and blurred... you might pm Brad or Bear_Music and ask them... this was the best I had time for :) also, there is a useful tutorial here: touching up about how to enhance and improve skin tone throughout :)
Hope this helps
