It's been one of those weeks. Why can't people just do their job?

He speaks the truth, I seen him do it all. lol

I also have had one of those weeks that I wish I could have fast forwarded through. Weekend is here now so hopefully things will chill out for a day or two.

If you are speaking of the Corporate World.

People don't do their jobs because:

1) They are part of the good ol' boys and girls club (friends in high places)
2) There is always someone else who will pick up the slack.
3) Management/leadership doesn't hold them accountable for anything.
4) They are ROAD Scholars. (Retired on Active Duty).
5) While the cats away the mice will play. (No discipline)

You are not alone...many of us deal with slackers on a daily basis.

ED: 6) No "Attention to Detail". This one we have to be careful about as one person's "the job is finished" might not be the same as our "the job is finished".

I retired after 31 years of total frustration. The only thing that saved me was my attitude. Do your best everyday, be satisfied with your actions, and tell the rest to stick it. Nothing ever changes.Hang in there.

I have never experienced anything like that ever. Fortune 50 companies must be exempt because it's nothing like that where I work. :P

I think it's more 1, 2 & 3. I've only seen 4 in government jobs (only the few elite fit this category)

6) is definitely the hard one but not the case here as the jobs are totally different.

Thanks for the words of wisdom.

Let me add:

7) Management plays the blame game, so everyone is permanently in CYA mode to deflect blame that belongs to management.

8) There is so much "process" to be done that little actual work gets done because most of the time is spent generating documentation about the work instead of getting the work done.

This is based on my experiences at a Fortune 100 company

Yup, there's a lot of deflection going on. It's hard not to get sucked into it.

4 verbals and a written warning later and he is still at it. some people just never get the message until its to late. That said this fella is skating on very thin ice. I expect it to crack very soon!

That's the Marketing department's job. "Never mind what we told you the customer wants last week, this is what they want."

I'm totally with you guys... I work for an international non-profit (that makes considerable profit and can't afford more employees... but that's a different issue), and have managed to move into the admin assistant/trouble-shooter position... I always knew most the people I worked with were both incompetent and lazy, but I hadn't realized how terrible it really was... and I have no idea why upper management keeps covering them.

Around where I live, it's the "good ole boy" system. It's all who you know, even if you are the most incompetent dumba** in the world. It's quite amazing, to be honest with you.
