No comments? At all? that is weird. I have never gotten this many comments before during the challenge (21 so far)..

Well, none of the comments on mine accused me of lack of creativity, even the ones who obviously did not care for it at all. However, I can't even break a 5. Maybe too creative? Is there a happy medium? If so, I think it is spelled mediocrity. I have comments that came in almost simultaneously "background detracts" and "good background choice". I'm just trying to consider the source and take the good advice when I see it and leave the rest alone. Ok, back to my cave. |

I didn't submit to the selfportrait challenge because I was not satisfied with the result I had (i.e. it sucked :)). Trying to get a certain lighting with only a desktop lamp and limited space in a room can be frustrating sometimes ;-)
However, there is a nother version I just prepared and I would appreciate it when you could tell me if you like it or not.. Link.

I think mine's doing badly 'cos people clicked the nearest button when my ugly mug scared them. |

It's no good being creative if your not going to be technicaly perfect, and it's no good being technicaly perfect if you can't be creative.

Soft focus works sometimes. Not here. This looks like way way too out of focus for my personal tastes. Try setting the camera down on something. Low light shots tend to fuzz up if there is any camera shake at all in the camera. Also, try the timer if you have one. That way you can avoid all camera shake. |

I agree, it's way too out of focus. i woudl turn your head slightly perhaps to give some defenition - depth. The shadow is quite hard but may work nicely.

Thanks for your input. I chose the blur because a) I'm shy ;-) and b) because my face normally looks rather chiseled (? don't know if that's the right word). I thought the blur, the high contrast and the dark eye vs. white parts would add some mystery or something. Btw: the camera was on a tripod and I almost always use the timer if I can, but I changed my focus to "manual" and zoomed a bit in to deliberately make it blurry.

Well thanks ;-) But I guess chiseled really was the wrong word (that's something greek statues are, right?). I think sharp-edged is more what I meant. Anyway, thanks for your input.

hehe for my portrait submission, I actually had one with my face clear background blurred, BUT I picked one shot which my face was slightly blurred instead and got a lot of remarks about how they wish my face is clearer :P |

Suddenly I don't feel so repulsive anymore.....but I do feel really badly for that poor little guy right at the end, so short, bald and portly, no arms or legs, probably blind as a bat, not a friend on the map by the looks of things. What is wrong with you people? How uncaring and calous could you be? Did you not ever hear of the "sympathy" vote? Sheesh..........
