Hi everyone next week I am shooting a high school semi formal and there are about 500 people to shoot (Studio Setup). I have a question that some of you might be able to help me with or have ideas on. I need to people able to find an easy way to know who is in the shots of each photo as they will be getting prints back.
I will be having 2 assistants there with me and can put them to work gathering names but im just wondering the best way to tag them to each photo, if there was a way to upload each photo after taking it i could just tag the names in the meta data but i don't know if thats possible (im shooting with the 20D)
Also i was wondering what you guys thought would be the best way to package and print these photos as there are alot of them if you have any suggestions or have done this kind of event before any ideas or suggestions would be great :)
Thanks

I would suggest that because each photo has a unique ID, that you write the ID down when you take the shot against the persons name. Still going to be tricky because 1 name out of sequence and your buggered.
I will continue to think and come back to you if i have anything better.
in addition to my suggestion above, it might be an idea to have 2 shots of each person, the first shot they could be holding a piece of card with their name written clearly in black marker and then use the second shot as the main portrait. Compare the two and you have a winner.

When we were in Maui Nextel had it set up at the Luau for everyone to get their pictures taken...the guy had a little portable square whiteboard and had his assistant write the names on them. It was one name (the nextel employee). So the last name, first name and location...snap a picture of it then took our picture and then on to the next couple....it kept things going quick and smooth. Just an idea! :)

Hey thanks for the suggestions, also just wondering if any of you know if there is a way that i can upload photos from the 20D directly to a laptop via USB that way i could add the meta data right away with the names of the people.
Thanks |

You want to shoot "tethered"? That means you have to have the cable connected between the camera and the computer while you shoot.
This will let you do it. DSLR Remote Pro

Or just use the EOS Utility suite that came with the camera and includes remote capture software. |

This may not help, but... I was shooting Dance Studio "teams" a couple of weeks ago. I brought a white board with me and had my daughter write the name of the team on the white board. Then I took a picture of the white board ahead of taking pictures of the team. That way I had an "in stream record" of what I was shooting, to go along with the paper work that the other assistant was handling.

yea i tried the software there is a trail version and it seems to work good, I just don't know what the best way is to tag each photo with the names.

Thats an idea do you know if it has an easy way to input comments or tag with meta data so i can add the names right into the info on each photo?
Also im just wondering about backgrounds and what would be a best all purpose setup for shooting 400 shoots of different people different dresses and colors ect, any suggestions would be of great help.
Thanks

Does the D20 have a built in microphone. I know some of them do and my Nikon D2X does - I sometimes just record the name and correct spelling on the photograph |

When shooting sports thats how I do it with my 1DMKII I just record the players number and cross reference it to the roster at home. The 20D does not have that option though.
