So, here is my story:
I went to pick up my boys at church last night and there was this cute little dog running around and jumping up at everyone trying to make friends. SOOOO, being the stray lover I am, I got out of my car and went to greet him... :)
Before I could do or say ANYTHING, a man from the church (who is the father of one of my son's friends) runs over and starts pushing the dog with his foot... next thing I know, the poor thing is running and this *ss is popping a cap gun at him and CHASING him!!!
I froze my butt off for 20 minutes looking for that poor beast after they chased him off because I was gonna bring him home and feed him (he looked real hungry and so so sad).
I have driven over there every chance I have had since last night looking for that little dog. No sign of him. There is a highway nearby and I just KNOW he is going to end up killed.
People bring their dogs out here and dump them off all the time (I took in a litter of 9 pups once and got them all adopted out but one and he went to a local no-kill shelter where I figured he would have a better chance) and I just don't understand how people can be so cruel (AT A CHURCH NO LESS). I can't believe he did that!!!
WHY DIDN'T I KICK THAT MAN BACK WHEN I SAW HIM KICKING THAT POOR DEFENSELESS DOG???!!!??? That dog had no one to stand up for it but me and I didn't DO ANYTHING. I feel so bad.
Thanks for listening...... |

IMO ... this is NOT a very christian thing to do ... sorry if people are offended by my remark, but what that guy did was just wrong.
kudos to you for trying to find the dog. perhaps he'll come back ... don't give up! :)

People like that should be shot! No animal deserves to be treated like that.
Hope you find the little guy.

Keep in mind you also have to be careful about what the dog may have and I know stray dogs can be unpredictable. Just ask my friend that tried to call one to see if he was nice.
After about 200 stiches I doubt he will ever walk up to a stray again or let his kids near any.
Edit to add the best thing in my opinion to do to a stray it just call the pound and let tem handle it. We need to promote getting your pet fixed. There are just way too many unwanted animals in this world. People just don't commit to them like they should and that is wrong.

oh yeah I know the feeling..
A very long time back.. I must have been 6 or 7, my family was on a road trip and I saw a giant turtle (if I'm going at the right species) flipped on it's back practically in the middle of the busy road.. It was so helpless and waving it's legs around..
My parents tisk, tisked and muttered something about rowdy boys and went ahead..
My instict was to get the car stopped and get my dad to flip him back but I didn't.. One of the things I regret the most in my life..
People are just pathetic if they find entertainment or justification to do things like that.. cruelty is never needed especially when dealing with the helpless..
edit :: typo.

We have no animal control here. And, Albert was a stray soooo, I am a softie.... :)
ETA: I know they can be unpredictiable and I am careful :) but this particular one was licking everyone and wagging his tail in a pathetic "feed me or just love me" kind of way.

Stuff like that makes me sooooo angry. I'm so happy that you tried to find the dog. I hope karma comes and bites that guy in the ass.
It's people like you that make me smile. I hope you find the poor little pup.

hopefully somebody kicks at him the next time he tries to go up to someone & shake their hand! stupid people. it would've been different if the dog was trying to rip your leg off but an innocent-happy-to-see-people pup doesn't deserve that. At least the pup had you on his side!

I doubt anyone will get offended, im a christian and i agree that is NOT a christian thing to do. People do stupid stuff they regret later, this may be his stupid thing for the week lol. I hope you find the dog :( Ive taken in about 8 dogs this year, most of their owners got them back.) Ive found 2 bulldogs, 3 pomeranians, 1 poodle, and some mexican hairless dog (pretty ugly). I usually take in any dogs i find wandering because sure shootin some arse is gunna snatch em up and sell them. Thats what happened to my dog samson, luckily the new owners found out he was mine and returned him for free :D |

JoJo, you have a huge heart, and obviously that man had none. Your inaction in this situation is understandable and forgivable. You were caught off guard by the actions of someone you expected better of. Don't beat yourself up for what you might have done, but didn't. Feel good for what you have done well and what you intend to do better. |

Rather than trusting in karma or god to resolve the issue, why not have a quiet word with the man at the church? It seems that this thread concerns failure to take direct action - you might find out the reasons for the behaviour, or make someone think twice about how they live their life.

This reminds me of a situation I found myself in, when I was in high school. The girls found out the boys had a kitten in their locker room and was doing cruel things to it. The popular girls didn't want to soil their reputations if they were caught in the boys room, So they wouldn't do anything. Me, being the timid, quiet one, opens my big mouth. I couldn't know about something like that and NOT do anything so without any help I snuck in and stole the poor helpless little black ball of fur. It had such scared little eyes but was greatful to be held lovingly. So I took it back to the girls locker room but knew if I left it, they would find it again. so I got a box and stuffed her into it. I had no other way home but the bus so I tried everything to keep it quiet but it wouldn't have anything to do with it. It started this pitiful howl...
The bus driver slammed the breaks so hard people fell out of their seats.
when he yelled at the students... I brought the box forward and started to bawl. His heart must have melted as I tried to explain between sobs. he told me 'don't do it again' and drove us home. My mom was less than thrilled since it was the 3rd one I rescued that month! lol
Some people have a soft spot for animals, like us. Some don't!
I will never understand how anyone can be so cruel.
I'm not a confrontational type of person. I probably wouldn't have been able to do anything at that moment either. Maybe some little kid rescued it and is loving on him as we speak.

I sure hope so T... I hate to think that he doesn't have a warm place to sleep tonight or food in his belly :(
I sure am happy to hear that other people stick up for animals too :)
Warms my heart :)
Matthew, you are exactly right, I am going to say something to him. I can be non-confrontational and still get my point across. I think. Either way, he needs to hear it! |

So what is this guy doing at a church with a cap gun? Doesn't sound like any church I ever went to.
What I would do is either get the minister to add it to his sermon about the evils of hurting ANY of God's creatures next week. And have him explain what someone saw on the Church grounds. Or, get up and tell it yourself and how it made you feel to see someone do that from your church.
Also, it has been proven that people that treat animals like that also threat their kids and spouse like that as well. I hope this guy isn't married or have any kids.
