well, i just sold my nikon D50 and 70-300mm G lens.

i'm going to the camera shop tomorrow, cashed up, with the intentions of making a purchase.

i'm still undecided between D80 and D200 ... but i'm leaning towards D80 based mostly on cost and the similar components between the two cameras.

i'm also going to get a lens.

do i get the VR 70-300mm?

or do i go for something funky like the tokina 10-17mm?

i have the 18-70mm lens (which i love) ... and the 50mm f1.8 ... and the 105mm macro prime.

last minute suggestions???

For the lens I would definately get a tele-photo, you sound pretty well covered at the wide end. Except for the extreme wide angle of couse but you are not covered in tele-photo land at all.

i'm thinking the same way ... telephoto with the VR will be very handy ... the ultrawide is specialty. i'd love to get it, but don't think i can get the use out of it.

Mate. Listen, please. If you're thinking D200, the D80 will disappoint. If you pick up and use the D200, you'll never want to put it down.

I have dreamed (and dare I say - DRIBBLED - ever since I held and used, very briefly, the D200).

Pony up the cash and get it.

i know ... i know ... i do want the D200 ... i have held one and i admit that i was a little bamboozled with all the options and buttons (coming from my little D50)

my problem is that i like the wireless remote (D80 can use, but D200 can't) and i'd have to buy new memory cards as well ... the $$$ will start to rack up and the wife might castrate me! :(

you're super-dave - Balls of Steel!

I know what you mean. I recomend the D200, but in the same situation, I'd be walking out with the D80.

I have aD200 and love it.I now only use my D70 rarely. Just got a 70-300VR and it is a really nice lense. I would go with the Tele.
