First off... your fault for procrastinating. Just because you bought the camera that day doersnt justify waiting to shoot the picture.
2nd I decided i was going to use my Pentax Optio M10 for a challenge but it wasnt on the list.
I didnt even know how to get it added.. so i created this thread //www.dpchallenge.com/forum.php?action=read&FORUM_THREAD_ID=529444 I was then told how.
8 Hours later the camera was up. Doesnt matter I didnt even enter int he challenge.

He drew attention to himself in a thread and i accidently clicked on his camera rather then his name when it loads I look at the page with the higest rated photos taken with that camera and more then half of them were his.... they all looked pretty damn good.

Just out of curiousity, do you even have to list a camera at all to participate in a challenge? I forget...

No. But it is in a pull down list so somthing is gonna be there. But also there is no camera vote only.

Yes if you have a camera on your EQ.... BUT can someone whos vote only try to enter a challenge and let us know what happens since u cant list the camera and by default the drop down is blank? |

No. |
Without deleting all your cameras goto an entry and try to not select a camera... u can ones already selected and their sno blank spot ur kinda wrong.... but i wonder if u had no cameras listed does it reject your entry |

Bottom line here, it *is* nice if at least challenge entries are correct in the equipment they list. It helps with the learning aspect of the site. Beyond that there's no impact; if we request proof, and the submitted file indicates a different camera, that will not affect whether it can be validated. |

Thats understood i didnt say it would be or had to be but it is nice to have the right camera listed.
Now if I list that I have a D200 and all my pics entered in challenges are from a cell phone camera that records EXIF... tell me theres not atleast 100 people here that would BASH me lol |

first of all, we strongly encourage all users to accurate label the equipment used in their challenge entries.
the primary issue here is that this camera does not appear to record EXIF data, which would make it an invalid camera for challenge entries. HOWEVER, without verifying with the submitter what equipment was used, we should not make any assumptions.
with that in mind, i respectfully request that you assume the best intentions of the photographer and stop the witch hunt.
thanks. :)
edit: kirbic types faster and more succinctly than me. :)

But it's not the first time ive seen it just one of those things and today while at work i noticed it on a large scale.

WHo has like the coolest avatar ever. I can make some wicked ones but I suck at anything that small. ANyone who can do art that small has some talent. I could do a 3dmodel of an entire car.. and not be able todo an 8bit 2d model of a car for a retro video game. |

What? This makes no sense at all. In the situation I described there is no procrastination occurring at all. The camera didn't exist, and the person taking the photo had no reason to request it be added until that moment, at which time it's too late. The image is no less valid just because the camera field is wrong in the database. |

This is what likely happened... it happened to me the other day.
He changed some info on the photo AFTER he had deleted the camera from his list of equipment.
I had deleted both the CoolPix 950 and Rebel from my equipment and when I was adding my copyright banner o old challenge entries it defaulted back to the Rebel XT.
To keep that from happening I had to go back and add the 950 and the Rebel back into my profile, so that it wouldn't change the Camera used.

You said what if you were to buy a NEW not listed on DPC camera and use it for a challenge and not have the right camera selected. You could have taken the picture in plenty of time with a different camera thats procrastination.
And i cited an example a true one of a camera being added to the EQ list in WAY less then 24 hours. Personally id ad any camera to my list either when i got home with it. Or when i placed my order for it online.
Alot of people are "Gadget Giddy" They post threads... "I just ordered My"... "I bought my ... today" "Im planning to buy" |
