Looks like the copyright problems are being looked into.

file names have been appended with Copyrighted_Image_Reuse_Prohibited_

for instance, one of my photos has the filename Copyrighted_Image_Reuse_Prohibited_450829.jpg

I think it's a pretty good start in my opinion... at least it's a good warning.

Thanks Langdon.

Quick tactical solution to our problem. It isn't going to stop people who are actual thieves but it will at least put a bug in their in ear to let them know that there is actual copyright on these images.

If someone uses the file, they can't claim "I didn't know" in court. :-)

On challenge entries only, I see, not portfolio images.

We've got some ideas floating, and we are actively working on things that will help to protect images, while not interfering with the learning aspect of the site, i.e. posting images *for* download and reedit. :-)

Portfolio images don't have a "no text" rule, so you can apply your own copyright text.

Not many people do this, especially in side challenges, as it generally detracts. I also think a textual "copyrighted image" notice would be a good thing in the general vicinity of the info/comment box.

I was thinking maybe portfolio images should also be covered, but NOT the workshop folder. As many of us use the workshop folder to work on other people's photos.

go to an image and right click it. Click properties........then view the address.

I did that and here is a screenshot of what I see either saving or viewing properties of a new challenge image ... I'm on a Mac and using Firefox

Full-sized images, not thumbnails.

Due to the way the files are organized on the server, it's a somewhat different process to apply the change to portfolios versus challenges. Since it's almost always challenge images that get stolen, they are being given highest priority.
